Rivers Emergency Rule: Lawmaker Defends Voice Vote By Reps

The House of Representatives’ use of voice vote in favor of President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State has been defended by a lawmaker named Dawodu Bashiru.
The House of Representatives voted in favor of Tinubu’s decision despite the outcry that followed his move. The oil-rich state’s crisis has become even more content with that controversy.
However, Dawodu, who represents Lagos State’s Oshodi/Isolo in the House of Representatives, has refrained from criticizing the lawmakers’ choice to use a voice vote. The All-Party Congress (APC) member claimed that the House has the authority to choose the voting format.
On Channels Telelvision’s Sunday Politics, he said, “The point I’m making is that the House is going to determine the way it operates.” That is the rule, he says. ”
The “Regulations Are Different”
Dawodu argued that the House of Representatives is not required to use electronic voting in all circumstances, despite the lawmakers using it in some cases.
It depends on what we are doing in terms of the rule, I suppose. An example will be provided for you. When you consider the previous election, Electronic Voting was also used to choose the speaker [Femi Gbajabiamila]. This is different from what took place this time, when Tajudeen Abbas was to be elected as speaker. On the current affairs program, he said, “the rules are different.
We use voice voting every day in our practice, I believe. This circumstance, in my opinion, is not unique. ”

Restore Fubara as its current ruler

Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy Ngozi Odu’s suspension along with members of the Rivers State House of Assembly and the declaration of a state of emergency by Tinubu have received strong opposition from prominent organizations and individuals across the nation.
The president of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Afam Osigwe has criticized the action despite President Tinubu’s mention of pipeline explosions in the state and the need for peace.

When asked if the president should appoint a new governor, Osigwe said on the program, “That is what we believe, that is what we expect the president to do,” he said.
Because of their unconstitutional appointment, we do not accept that a sole administrator is the one who is permitted to reside in Rivers State.
