Richard Hammond admits he’s an ‘idiot’ as he breaks silence after split with wife
Richard Hammond, a former Top Gear fan, has come off as “an idiot” after managing to lock himself out of his own home in amidst his eagerly awaited return on YouTube.
After splitting from his wife Mindy after 28 years together, the incident took place just a few weeks after. The 55-year-old TV star described how his day turned out erroneously when he discovered himself locked out in a new DriveTribe video that was released on Wednesday. Hammond told his fans, “I’m late because I locked myself out of the house.”
I actually have everything ready and waiting for me to leave for the Lake District this afternoon, so I decided to go empty the bins first. I then pushed the kitchen bin out of the front door because the door was stuck and the door was Yale-locking. I was stood outside, I was in my Crocs, I was in my dressing gown. I didn’t have my phone, the keys, anything”.
“It was quite panicky, and I thought, ‘ What do I do now? ‘ I thought about crying, but then I thought that won’t help. I felt about 10”., reports the Express. In a desperate bid to re-enter his house, Hammond recounted his failed attempt to break a window with a brick, quipping: “I don’t know how burglars make a living”, before admitting defeat and calling a locksmith, who breezed through the task in seconds.
He summed up the fiasco by saying: “I do not know. So in the end, I had to phone a locksmith, who got in in five seconds. So in short, I’m late because I’m an idiot”. Richard Hammond, who recently split from wife Mindy, has resurrended his public image with a new video.
Before declaring their separation in January, the pair had been married for 28 years and had two incredible daughters. We are proud of the family we created, and we will always be living together.
Following long-running rumors of strain brought on by Hammond’s frequent travels and daring stunts for the show, the couple broke up. Prior to moving to Herefordshire, Hammond had created a “man cave” out of a converted barn at the lavish £7 million Bollitree Castle, which the couple had previously resided in.
Now living in a rented home in a nearby village, Hammond continues to operate his classic car business, Smallest Cog. Meanwhile, it’s speculated that Mindy will retain the castle following their divorce. Hammond sparked a revealing moment last year when he walked fans through their private lives by posing as the owner of the barn, where he joked that he had broken Mindy’s “golden rule” and kept his motorcycle collection there. He remarked, “My wife swears blind; it’s haunted, and it’s more for me and the chaps.”
In a surprising twist, despite their separation, Hammond and Mindy banded together for a festive family Christmas with their two daughters. However, it appears that the reconciliation was brief because Mindy is said to have divorced after Hammond was previously informed that he had had his “last chance” years earlier.
