A protester who carried a Palestinian flag outside the NFL Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans was detained after intermission of rapper Kendrick Lamar’s half-time performance.
The man jumped onto a car Lamar’s headliner used to attend Caesars Superdome on Sunday to perform.
According to an Associated Press source, the New Orleans Police Department stated in a statement that it was “working to determine applicable charges in this incident.”
The Philadelphia Eagles defeated the Kansas City Chiefs 42-20, and the game continued as planned after the protester was removed from the field right away.
The demonstrator, holding a Palestinian flag with the words “Gaza” and “Sudan” written across it, jumped from the car and ran in circles on the field after being spotted by security staff.
The protester, believed to be a production cast member, was dressed in clothing similar to that of the numerous dancers and flag bearers who were part of Lamar’s much-anticipated performance.
Donald Trump and his daughter Ivanka, both NFL commissioners, were present for the game, making it the first time a sitting US president had watched the Super Bowl.
Trump was present for the half-time show but did leave the stadium a little before the game’s conclusion.

Samuel L. Jackson, a well-known actor best known for his roles in Pulp Fiction and Star Wars, was also present along with Lamar and SZA, a fellow recording artist, at the time of the protest.
The protester was only briefly glimpsed in the background as the production continued without interruption.
The moment was captured on camera, which was later widely shared on social media.
