
Some federal universities’ leadership positions have been changed, according to President Bola Tinubu.
The Special Adviser to the President for Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, stated in a statement on Thursday that the changes are intended to revitalize the nation’s higher education system through effective leadership and accountability.
President Tinubu removed Professor Aisha Sani Maikudi’s duties as Vice-Chancellor and dissolved the governing body at Yakubu Gowon University (previously University of Abuja).
Sen. Lanre Tejuoso has been appointed as the new Pro-Chancellor of the university, while Prof. Lar Patricia Manko will serve as Acting Vice Chancellor for a six-month term.
Similar adjustments have been made at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), where Prof. Polycarp Emeka Chigbu was appointed interim vice-chancellor for a six-month period of interim service. Prof. Oguejiofu T. Ujam will take Prof. Polycarp Emeka Chigbu’s place as acting vice-chancellor.
Additionally, retired Gen. Ike Nwachukwu has been reassigned as Pro-Chancellor at the University of Uyo, while Mr. Olubunmi Kayode Ojo is the new Pro-Chancellor of UNN.
Prof. Zubairu Tajo Abdullahi has been appointed as the Federal University of Lokoja’s Pro-Chancellor, Sen. Sani Stores as the University’s Pro-Chancellor, and Barrister Olugbenga Kukoyi as the Nnamdi Azikiwe University in Awka, Anambra State’s Pro-Chancellor.
According to President Tinubu, these changes reflect his administration’s commitment to strengthening governance and academic excellence within Nigeria’s tertiary education sector.
