Postecoglou unsure on future – but why do many Spurs fans blame Levy?

During his second spell in charge of Tottenham, Ange Postecoglou faced some difficult circumstances.

After suffering a 6-3 defeat at home against Liverpool in December and having to use extra time to beat non-league Tamworth in the FA Cup in January, the newly promoted club lost to Ipswich in November.

Spurs’ season, however, came to an even worse conclusion on Sunday with a 2-1 defeat to Leicester City, who had been without success since moving to north London for seven games.

A banner displayed by fans in Tottenham’s South Stand during the first half put it simply, saying: “24 years, 16 managers, one trophy – time for change”.

There’s a sense that changing the manager now would not solve Spurs’s problems – as they have repeatedly tried since Mauricio Pochettino’s longer five-year spell – with Jose Mourinho, Nuno Espirito Santo and Antonio Conte.

The most powerful person at Spurs is chairman and owner Levy, and it is him, not manager Ange Postecoglou, who is the target of anger.

The criticism centers primarily on a conceited inability to reinvest the club’s profits, including the construction of a world-class stadium in North London, into helping to create a winning team.

One of the best, if not the best, training facilities in the country is also available to Spurs, but critics point to the lack of infrastructure development on the pitch.

Postecoglou has largely refrained from changing his playing style, opting instead to play similarly even when he is without key players.

Depending on who you talk to, this is either Postecoglou’s biggest strength or his main weakness.
