Pope Francis To Return To Vatican After Five-Week Hospitalisation

After spending five weeks in the hospital with pneumonia, Pope Francis will now go back to his home at the Vatican on Sunday.

One of the doctors, Sergio Alfieri, said on Saturday that the 88-year-old head of the Catholic Church was “very happy” to learn that his health had improved enough to allow him to leave the Gemelli Hospital in Rome.

Alfieri remarked that the pontiff, who was a young man when he had a portion of his lung removed, was still going to need “at least two months” to recover.

In the early afternoon, Pope Francis was scheduled to leave the hospital.

In what would be his first public appearance since February 14, the Vatican announced that he would give a blessing and wave a wave to well-wishers outside the hospital shortly before noon (1100 GMT).

The pope’s reign lasted the longest and the fourth time since his election in 2013 with his longest hospital stay ever since that date.

As his health is getting more and more shaky, it’s been a Whether Francis could decide to step down and replace him in place of his predecessor Benedict XVI, as his predecessor did, is a subject of speculation because of his increasingly fragile health.

A period of rest, perhaps?

Francis is doing better, the pope’s doctors told reporters on Saturday at Gemelli Hospital.

He was now breathing without using an oxygen mask, according to the Vatican on Wednesday.

However, Alfieri asserted that “further progress will take place at his home because a hospital is the worst place to recover because it can lead to more infections.”

The doctor stated that Francis will move his residential suite to Saint Martha’s House in the Vatican on Sunday.

Alfieri, however, refrained from assuming that Francis would soon resume his normal duties.

By definition, a period of rest is a convalescence. Therefore, it is obvious that he won’t be able to attend his regular daily appointments while he is still in the convalescence period.

Questions arising from Easter

Therefore, it is still unclear who might oversee the hectic schedule of religious celebrations leading up to Easter, the Christian calendar’s most holy season.

The pontiff typically recites the Angelus prayers on Sunday, but the pope has missed five straight weeks.

Vatican Secretary of State Pietro Parolin responded to the rumors that Francis would resign on Monday by saying, “No, no, no, absolutely not.

For the pope’s quick recovery, Catholics and other people around the world have been praying. Several people have left flowers, candles, and notes for Francis outside of Gemelli Hospital.

He spent several weeks in assisted breathing, with nasal tubes, and an oxygen mask, at the most alarming hospitalization.

His doctors said he twice experienced “very critical” times when his life was in danger, but he remained conscious throughout.

After receiving treatment in Gemelli Hospital for a month, he was only declared unintentional.

Francis will need physical re-education to regain voice control due to the pneumonia he contracted.

Your lungs are damaged, and your respiratory muscles are strained, according to Alfieri. The voice needs to “reset to normal” after a while.

The Vatican published a photo of the pope praying in a chapel in his hospital room on March 16 despite the pope’s absence since February 14.

The pope thanked the faithful for praying for him on March 6 when he made an audio recording of his speech.
