Policemen Injured In Osun Community Clash, Nine Arrested

Seven of the Osun State Police Command’s personnel have been hurt in the bloody fighting that broke out on Monday in Esa-Oke, according to the Osun State Police Command.

The Osun State Police Public Relations Officer, Yemisi Opalola, confirmed the incident in a voice message on Monday afternoon that the officers had sustained gunshot wounds from an ambush while traveling to the affected community.

That crisis broke out early on Monday morning in Ido-Ayegunle due to a disagreement over chieftaincy, according to Channels Television.

Ido-Ayegunle, it was revealed, is a town located between Esa-Oke and Ijebu-Ijesa in Oriade Local Government Area of the state.

The dispute reportedly started over the weekend, and it eventually sprang up to a communal conflict on Monday when the town’s residents claimed the monarch was Ilesa.

Opalola, however, did not mention the cause of the crisis that engulfed the community on Monday morning.

She continued, “The Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Umar Abba, drafted police personnel from various formations to go to the location and ensure that calm is brought to that area immediately the police command was informed of the crisis in Obokun area Command of Osun State, specifically at Esa-Oke.”

They encountered a roadblock with a log of wood that blocked passage when they arrived at a point very close to Esa-Oke. Some police officers jumped out of their cars and rolled the log of wood away for their destination.

“As they alighted, they were gunshots from the bush around the area which injured seven personnel. They responded, and they returned with a shotgun fired there.

” Two of the gunmen were later arrested. We are diligently pursuing the arrest of each of these criminals.

“The police personnel who were hurt are currently recuperating at the hospital.” This is the latest update”.
