Police Seal Off ADC Registration Venue In Cross River

Police authorities in Cross River State have sealed off a venue in Calabar where members of the opposition African Democratic Congress (ADC) were scheduled to hold a membership mobilisation and registration exercise.

Officers of the Nigeria Police Force arrived at the venue and prevented the event from taking place, an action that reportedly caused tension among party members and supporters who had gathered for the exercise.

Some members of the party expressed concern over what they described as interference in their political activities and called for respect for democratic rights and freedom of association.

However, the Cross River State Police Command says the situation is linked to an internal disagreement within the party. According to information made available by the command, there is an intra-party dispute within the ADC in the state. Police personnel were therefore deployed to the area to ensure peace, maintain law and order, and prevent any possible breakdown of public peace.
