Police Condemn Officer For Brandishing Rifle, Begin Probe

The viral video of an officer slamming a rifle during an argument with a person has prompted the Ebonyi State Police Command to launch an investigation.

The video involved an officer driving a tricycle, who during an altercation with his passengers, brandished his rifle. The incident happened on Saturday along the ever-busy Enugu-Abakaliki Road in Abakaliki, the state capital.

The officer’s behavior was condemned by Ebonyi State Police Command’s spokesperson Joshua Ukandu in a press release on Monday.

The officer allegedly violated the Nigeria Police Force’s Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and ethics, according to Ukandu. He claimed that he had already been subject to disciplinary proceedings.

Meanwhile, Ebonyi Anthonian Uche-Anya, the police commissioner, has reassured state residents that the command has no tolerance for disorderly behavior.
