Police Arrest Suspected Electric Cable Vandals In Bauchi

Six people have been detained by the Bauchi State Police Command’s operations for gender-based violence and vandalism.

The Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, confirmed this in a statement released Tuesday.

He said on December 25, 2024, police officers on patrol apprehended Hamza Mohammed, 20, and Mustapha Sa’idu, 22, both of Bauchi, for allegedly stealing vehicle tires and cement.

“The suspects confessed to trespassing and stealing the items, valued at N249, 000”, he said.

On January 14, 2025, Aliyu Musa and other individuals vandalized electrical equipment belonging to the Jos Electricity Power Company (JED).

According to the Command’s spokesman, the suspects had allegedly arranged to sell the stolen conductor to Al-Ameen Ibrahim.

A hacksaw, a lot of electric aluminum conductor, and a motorcycle were among the items recovered from the suspects.

“Investigation is ongoing, after which the suspects will be charged to court for the established offence in collaboration with Jos Electric Distribution Company, Bauchi Branch, for prosecution”, the statement read.

In a separate incident, Shehu Isah, 45, was arrested on January 25, 2025, for allegedly sexually assaulting a five-year-old girl in Kirfi.

The suspect is accused of forcingly having sexual knowledge of the victim into the suspect’s bedroom.

“On January 16, 2025, police in Ningi apprehended Shafi’u Sule in connection with the disappearance of a ten-year-old girl. &nbsp, The girl was found with Sule, who allegedly threatened her life.

According to Wakil, the suspect threatened to cut off the victim’s tongue and burn her alive if she dared to call for help.

He noted that the investigation has been further shifted to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID).
