In Super Bowl 59, US President Donald Trump will play in front of Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, who said it will be “pretty cool” and an “honor.”

As the Chiefs take on the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday in New Orleans, Trump will be the first US president to hold a Super Bowl address.

Kelce’s girlfriend, music superstar Taylor Swift, has previously criticised Trump and endorsed the Democratic candidate Kamala Harris as Trump was re-elected last year.

Following the New Year’s Eve terror attack, which left 14 people dead on Bourbon Street, security measures were already in place at the Superdome, where Swift will also be playing on Sunday.

The Chiefs hope to become the first team to win three Super Bowls in a row under Kelce’s watch.

“It’s a great honour I think, no matter who the president is”, Kelce said on Wednesday.

Patrick Mahomes, the quarterback for Kansas City, added that it will be “cool” to play in front of President Trump.

The Chiefs have won three of their previous five Super Bowls, their fifth in six years.

Speaking earlier this week, Trump declined to pick a winner, saying: “I don’t want to say, but there’s a certain quarterback that seems to be a pretty good winner”.

In response, Mahomes said: “It’s always cool to be able to play in front of a sitting president, someone that is in the top position in our country.
