After winning a court case against her, Piiers Morgan has attacked an alleged stalker.

The 59-year-old presenter is known for his outspoken opinions and propensity to look at issues ranging from the political to the absurd. The former Good Morning Britain host interviewed Fiona Harvey, a Scottish woman believed to be the real-life inspiration for the character Martha in the hit Netflix series Baby Reindeer, which sees the character obsessively stalk a struggling comedian.

Piers claimed that a person targeted him in the wake of the interview, which was aired via YouTube and received millions of views from all over the world. Insider Productions Ltd., his production company, has launched an unprecedented legal action against him. The individual accused the presenter of “abuse, harassment, fraud, and dishonesty” – going on to make bizarre claims including accusations he had stolen her brother’s identity.

According to a report, Piers is not the only star at issue, with the individual claiming to have filed 64 cases against various stars. The presenter’s production company successfully defeated the accuser last month, while a judge rejected a similar case brought by the same person against Piers personally.

The broadcaster believes that his case has exposed a legal flaw (Getty Images).

Piers explained to The Sun about the ordeal, explaining that his accuser had been attempting to extort him by filming her false accusations. He said: “It’s absurd, complete fantasy stuff and just ramblings. You have to defend it, even though I didn’t want to, after the court contacted me. Otherwise, the case is adjourned, and you could sue you or your business, which she was attempting to do.

Piers believes, however, that his accuser unintentionally exposed a flaw in the legal system that could force people to pay large sums of money to defend themselves from fabricated accusations. He explained that the person who brought up his case had used “fee remission,” a program that assists people receiving state or low-income benefits or those who are receiving court benefits, to pursue her claims.

Piers argues:” It means the cost to her issuing the claims is effectively nothing. The court process, which requires the defendants to go through, ultimately results in the payment of the costs. She’s abusing the court process quite skillfully, exposing a kind of weakness in the system.

“(But) if someone’s doing this so many times to so many people and it’s obvious it’s all bull****, why are they allowing her to do it? A six-figure sum will likely be spent on our collective defense against a total maniac who will purposefully abuse the court system.

The accuser agreed to pay Piers £6, 000 in damages after proving his innocence, but he admitted he did not anticipate seeing a dime. He added that he was concerned about the financial and safety concerns that might apply to people who have been targeted by other unhinged obsessives.

The TV star acknowledged that he does try to put threats at ease with them, but that he also has the option to pay for security if necessary. He questioned whether there could have been a “double standard” if his case had been handled differently because he was a woman being targeted by a controlling male fan.
