After initially outlawing the technique, the PFL has officially legalized elbow strikes in its fights.

The best fighters can compete up to four times a year because the MMA promotion has a league system in place in both the US and Europe.

With elbows increasing the chance of a cut to a fighter, the technique was banned.

However, chairman Donn Davis announced the strike would be a permanent fixture of the PFL after allowing elbows in the 2024 PFL finals in November.

“New year, new adjustments”, Davis said on X.

“You asked for elbows,]PFL] is giving you elbows. All elbows. All fights. All the time”.

The PFL has a scheduled event for January 25 in Dubai, but no dates have been set for the start of the 2025 season.

Usman Nurmagomedov, the lightweight champion from Ireland, takes on Paul Hughes.
