A father claims that his son and he were prevented from seeing a Peter Kay performance because they repeatedly yelled the comedian’s name.
Philip Peters, 54, said he yelled “garlic bread” during the funnyman’s Better Late Than Never… Again! gig in Manchester at the weekend. Mr. Kay’s decision to have security remove several audience members from the venue sparked a flurry of disagreement.
Philip, whose 26-year-old son was also asked to leave, last night said: “I just can’t understand it, all I said was ‘ garlic bread’… They dragged us out like ragged dolls when my son and I were there.
The comedian claims that when he initially chanted the catchphrase, Mr. Kay, and the warehouse driver were both appreciative of how he handled the situation during the second half of the performance. Philip, who was given the tickets for the show as a Christmas present from his 17-year-old daughter, added: “In the first half of the show, I shouted out” garlic bread “and they zoomed in on the camera on me. And I gave it a thumbs up that everything was alright. I got no warning or anything, people around us were laughing and joking.
The security guards then came over to me and said, “You are going to have to leave – Peter Kay doesn’t like people shouting out,” and I repeated it in the second half of the show.

Another audience member at Manchester’s AO arena who expressed admiration by shouting” we love you”, was also asked to leave, with Mr Kay reportedly making a remark comparing her to actress Lisa Riley.
Other audience members left early, according to Philip, because they thought people had been kicked out because they were so unhappy. However, some online users claim that hecklers always ruin shows.
Nevertheless, Philip said he remains a fan of Mr Kay, whose epic comeback gig began in 2022 and is set to finish this summer. The dad added:” I have loved Peter Kay forever. I’ve always wanted to see him live, and I’ve always watched him on TikTok and Car Share. I’ve loved watching him… I just can’t understand it, all I said was ‘ garlic bread’. That’s my favourite joke of his. “
The tour is estimated to have generated an impressive revenue of £27million, reports Mail Online. It beat Michael McIntyre’s £10.3million revenue. Tickets to the comic’s gig cost an average of £59.70 in comparison to Michael’s £43.35 tickets.
