After going out live on stage, Patti Smith’s health status forced her to reschedule upcoming tour dates.

The 78-year-old music legend fell and hit her head on the stage on Wednesday while performing with the Brazilian band Soundwalk Collective in So Paolo. The People Have The Power singer had been on tour with the experimental sound group in North and South America, but the incident forced him to reschedule performances in the future.

She was taken away from a hospital for treatment after falling midway through a concert on Wednesday, according to reports. Fans were stunned, however, when she later returned to the stage in order to perform one of her most iconic songs, Because the Night.

Patti’s health was later revealed in a statement from Soundwalk Collective, which revealed that she had been having a migraine before falling and had initially hoped a performance the following night would continue as planned. The concert was later later called off, but now the singer has released a statement to reassure her fans that she is recovering well.

Patti posted a smiling picture of herself waving at the camera on Thursday and details about her health emergency. She wrote: “This is letting everyone know that I am fine.

The press and social media are distributing a grossly exaggerated account. I had some post migraine dizziness. Had a small i incident, left the stage, and returned 10 minutes later and talked to the people, told them I was fine and sang them Wing and Because the night”.

She continued: “I was checked out by an excellent Doctor and was absolutely fine. Accept no more stories, please. This explicable incident doesn’t merit as much attention given the conflict in the world.

Sharing her appreciation for the concerns her fans had shown, she concluded: “Thank you everyone for your concern. Trust me I am fine”. Fans responded to the update by sending her more letters of support, one of which read, “Thank you beautiful Patti for all that you give. Wishing you all the best things always and always. You are pure love”.

The Soundwalk Collective confirmed they had been forced to cancel Thursday night’s gig with Patti’s update. They wrote in an online statement: “Dear friends in São Paulo, it is with much sadness that we decided to cancel tonight’s performance at Teatro Cultura Artistic. Our compassionate doctors are optimistic that Patti will soon be back to her best, but she still needs a little more time, according to our caring doctors.

The group added: “We can’t be thankful enough for your continuous love, support and understanding, and for all the messages and wishes of swift recovery that we have received. We can’t wait to be back in São Paulo as soon as possible”.

Patti collapsing on stage and then returning to address fans has been documented online since Wednesday night’s concert. You’ve been so patient, she said, and sadly, I got sick and the doctor told me I couldn’t finish, so we’ll have to figure something out. I feel very badly”. While a statement from the theatre declared: “She’s being attended to by the best doctors and our team”.
