Pamela Anderson issues powerful statement as she receives first Golden Globe nomination
After receiving her first-ever Golden Globe nomination for The Last Showgirl, actress Pamela Anderson was overcome with emotion.
The 57-year-old actress has won praise for her portrayal of a former Las Vegas showgirl and has been nominated for Best Actress in a Drama. In a message to People, Anderson shared: “I share this beautiful nomination with The Last Showgirl Family, my family, and my hard working companions on this interesting journey. It is never too late to dream, to start again, to stay open to possibilities — we are not all so lucky. As I navigate this new exciting chapter, I sincerely thank everyone for their love and gratitude.
Anderson is among several women over 50 recognised in this year’s nominations, including Demi Moore (62) for Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy for The Substance, Nicole Kidman (57) for Best Actress in a Drama for Babygirl, and Isabella Rossellini (72) for Best Supporting Actress in a Musical or Comedy for Conclave.
Shelly, a once-glamorous showgirl, abruptly ends her 30-year career after the show she co-starred in, is played by Anderson. Her character now has to make sense of the uncertain future. In addition to bringing depth to the role of a seasoned performer forced to adapt after the show abruptly ended due to the changing demands of the entertainment industry, Anderson, who made her Broadway debut in 2022 as Roxy Hart in Chicago, is praised for her performance in The Last Showgirl.
When Anderson decided to go makeup free to promote her new film, she was almost unrecognizable. The star has been makeup-free, on-and-off, for years, a decision she made after a devastating loss that made her reflect on the aging process as a woman who is often under the Hollywood microscope.
After her friend Alexis Vogel and makeup artist lost her battle with breast cancer in 2019, Anderson decided to go all-natural. She used to wear heavy eye makeup and over-lined lips. The actress chose not to replace her friend and instead chose to embrace her natural features and stop wearing cosmetics altogether.
She has also stated that she no longer wears makeup to “stop chasing her youth” and embraces the aging process. The Last Showgirl made its Toronto International Film Festival debut in September, and it will be available in theaters only until December 13.
Anderson gained notoriety for her role in Baywatch’s beloved television series as C. J. Parker. In the 1990s, Anderson was depicted as a lifeguard patrolling the beaches of California, cementing her status as a pop culture icon.
Before Baywatch, Anderson gained attention as a model, appearing on the cover of Playboy magazine in 1989, which launched her career in the entertainment industry. She later became one of Playboy’s most celebrated cover stars, appearing on the magazine’s cover numerous times. She became a star in the early stages of her career, and eventually became a global celebrity.
