One Direction ‘could reunite onstage’ for Liam Payne BRIT Awards tribute
Liam Payne will be honored at this year’s BRIT Awards, which will allow One Direction to reunite on stage for the first time since splitting in 2016.
Liam tragically died on October 16, 2024, aged 31, after falling from a third-floor balcony at the CasaSur Palermo Hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina. According to an autopsy, Liam died instantly as a result of his fall, which resulted in “multiple traumatic injuries” and later “internal and external hemorrhage.”
The singer, who shared a seven-year-old son Bear with former X Factor judge Cheryl, will be honored at the BRIT Awards, according to reports.
Sources have now suggested that Niall Horan, Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, and Zayn Malik, the other band members of One Direction, could perform together once more in honor of their late bandmate.
According to a source, “The tribute to Liam at this year’s awards show has created real buzz and rumors that the band’s remaining One Direction bandmates might once again be performing on stage.” Talks are already raging about how to make this BRITsequence unmissable, and it would be perfectly appropriate to honor Liam.
The One Directions might collaborate with other musicians, the source added, adding that the tribute might feature them alone. Since appearing on the ITV talent show in 2010, the band has won seven BRIT awards over the years.
According to a show insider, Liam “loved” the event and it was suggested that he will “forever be part of the show’s history”. The insider continued, “The preparation is still in its early stages, and formal approaches will be made in the coming weeks. But there are set to be a mixture of performances, tasteful photo and video montages and a live orchestra”.
A special plaque honoring Liam has just been unveiled at Clevedon Pier. On March 25, 2014, Liam and his former One Direction bandmates famously shot parts of the You &, I song on the pier.
The official Clevedon Pier account posted a photo of the plaque alongside the original documenting their day on the pier on Twitter, which was previously known as Twitter. The latest reads: “Remembering Liam Payne – One Direction. 29.08.1993 – 16.10.2024”. It also included the lyrics: “If you’re lost just look for me, you’ll find me in the region of the summer stars”, taken from the bands song, Walking in the Wind. “
