Obasa Absent From Plenary As Meranda, Assembly Members Display United Front

Despite insisting that he would continue to lead the Lagos House of Assembly after his impeachment, Mudashiru Obasa was unable to attend the plenary on Monday.

This came after Channels Television reported that the Assembly had instructed its employees to present valid identification cards when entering the building, indicating tightened security at the complex.

On Monday, there were a lot of police officers stationed close to the Assembly building.

Today’s plenary is the third session presided over by Meranda since Obasa’s removal, with the former speaker absent at the last two sittings.

At plenary on Monday, the rest of the members, 39 in number, including the current Speaker, Mojisola Meranda were seen gathering within the premises of the assembly for a group photograph.

The image serves to dispel the rumors that have beencirculating that the country has now been divided since Obasa broke his silence regarding his impeachment.

The troubled former speaker pleaded with him over the weekend to keep running the Lagos Assembly.

He argued that the process for his impeachment was improper.
