Respecting the cultures and traditions of their hosts and making the most of the year’s service period have been advised to the commanders in Zamfara State.
Brigadier General YD Ahmed, the director general of the state’s National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), addressed the group of state’s 2024 Batch C Stream II Corps members on Saturday during their three-week Orientation course.
One of the scheme’s main goals, according to the NYSC DG, is to promote cultural integration among the youth.
He therefore urged the corps members to be open-minded, adjust quickly to the demands of their new environment, and make Zamfara State their new home.
General Ahmed advised the corps members to settle down, remain on their primary assignments, and refrain from making pointless travel arrangements.
He stated that the organization will continue to give corps members a priority over their welfare and safety, adding that they won’t be stationed in designated areas.
“Nigeria is an excellent place. Anywhere you go, you will see good people”, he said.
“Adjust yourself to any host community you find yourself in, interact with the people, and you’ll call it home.”
“Live your lifelong friends in Zamfara State. You’ll return to this place to meet them after your year of service. Some of you will not even leave, you may stay back here and become multimillionaires.
“Don’t look at yourself as a separate entity. Integration and unity are the scheme’s fundamental values. Respect their customs and traditions, they will in turn respect you more”, he stressed.
The corps members were also encouraged to take part fully in community development service activities in order to increase their impact in the host communities, according to the NYSC boss.
Prior to this, Muhammad Ahmed, the coordinator of the Zamfara State NYSC, had stated that the corps members were gradually adapting to their new surroundings and were receiving camp instruction.
The Zamfara State Government has approved new and improved local allowances for corps members, according to the coordinator.
