The 36 state governors have been given the task of leading development at the grassroots, according to President Bola Tinubu, who claims that the financial autonomy given to local governments is not intended to snatch the third tier of government from governors.  ,
The President argued that the subnational level’s governor leadership is essential to achieving rapid national growth, economic prosperity, and food security.
When Kwara State Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazak led the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) to pay him a New Year’s eve hommage on Wednesday at his Ikoyi residence in Lagos, Tinubu made the statement.

The president dispelled rumors of disagreement with the governors and stressed the value of grassroots development.
“We won’t fight within ourselves,” he declared. I will drive the change. You control your local governments. By effectively delivering what the people at the grassroots want, you can rekindle hope.
There was rumors that we disagreed on local government autonomy. No. Just drive development at the local government. Nobody wants to take them away from you, but we need collaboration. According to presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga, “let’s do it all together and make sure Nigeria is better off for it,” Tinubu said.
Tinubu called for stronger collaboration between the federal and state governments to address pressing challenges, including local government autonomy, agricultural productivity, and currency stability.
As a means of achieving economic stability, President Tinubu urged governors to prioritize agricultural growth.
” You are the most important link to Nigeria’s prosperity and development. The Federal Government receives about 30% to 35% of the revenue, while the rest is split between you and the government. You are a part of the agricultural value chain. You own the land, and the job is in your hands.
“We have to work harder, grow more, and ensure the situation of our currency improves. Nigeria will see prosperity, but it requires consistent effort from all of us”, he said.

The governor of Kwara State and the Nigeria Governors Forum’s chairman, Ono, on his part, assured the president of the governors’ support.
Governor Abdulrazaq told reporters, “I must admit that I haven’t completed two years in this administration, but I have completed more projects than I did in my first four years.”
