Nikki Sanderson eyes up Corrie comeback after dramatic show exit

After playing the resilient but troubled Maxine Minniver for more than a decade, actress Nikki Sanderson has revealed her rumored exit from Hollyoaks in an exclusive conversation with OK! Even though the 40-year-old actress decided to move forward without a planned new career, Nikki, who is from Blackpool, admits that if the chance came up, she would be open to making the move back to Corrie.
After becoming a household name on Coronation Street from 1999 to 2005, Nikki made her first appearance on the Channel 4 soap as Maxine in November 2012, at the age of 28. When asked if she would jump-start the soap shift and return to the one that made her famous, she replies, “Never say never is my approach.”

The actress goes on to say, “I love Coronation Street and Candice, so I’d never close myself if they did want me back in the future,” adding, “That’s the exciting part of doing what I do.” You never know what might occur next.
Who knew that the Carol Godby Theatre Workshop’s drama classes would have helped me spend the next 30 years of my career as a young girl because of them? I have faith in having Anthony, my family, and my friends by my side, even though it may be much harder than it once was, despite the false pretense that it will be.
She continues, “She felt it was the right time to leave Hollyoaks,” noting that the decision was “extremely difficult.” And now that Nikki has spent the majority of her working life on soaps, she admits to being both excited and nervous to return to the stage and audition again. You now have self-taped and show reels, but I didn’t have to because you were just sitting around a casting director, and she “funs.” The digital CV is everything, whereas the original Spotlight catalogue was like a Yellow Pages for actors!

“I’m eager to learn more about this new world, but I also have fear because I have no idea how the industry operates and have a lifetime of potential employment.” However, I’ll do everything in my power to see myself in these truly incredible productions out there and be as positive as possible.
In the exclusive chat and shoot, Nikki, who turned 40 last year, also reveals that Anthony Quinlan, a former Hollyoaks actor who played Gilly Roach from 2005 to 2011, is one of her favorite “things.” The couple, who cohabitate in the North West, announced their romance in 2022, but they largely remain secret.
When we inquire about whether they’ve discussed getting married or having children, she says, “I don’t like talking too much about my personal life, but I will say I’m the happiest I’ve ever been, Anthony is incredible.” Let’s see what the future holds because I’m in a wonderful, content relationship! Anthony is truly my rock, and he has been incredibly patient with me as I made the difficult choice to leave Hollyoaks.
