Nigella Lawson fronts Greggs first ever Christmas advert praising ‘succulent fillings’
Nigella Lawson, a celebrity chef and cookbook author, will appear in Greggs’ first-ever Christmas ad, which features her enjoying the high street chain’s delicious food.
In the ad, Nigella, who is known for her indulgent recipes and eloquent cooking programmes, is featured returning to her home decorated with fairy lights and a Christmas tree decorated with Greggs baubles, before describing the “rapturous riot of flavour” of the chain’s “festive bake” pastry. She says: “Succulent filling, creamy sauce, all wrapped up in the flakiest of flaky pastries, in one or both hands, say hello to the Greggs festive bakes”, before taking a bite of one.
The final scene features a Greggs Christmas menu item for the camera to pan across before being placed on a platter of vegan treats. Reports in recent days suggest that, despite starring in the ad, Nigella had declined to endorse the chain’s well-known sausage rolls.
Greggs claimed that the reports were inaccurate, and that she had never been asked to endorse the restaurant’s sausage rolls. She added that the chef’s campaign was meant to promote the holiday menu. “I’ve been a long-time fan of Greggs, especially their sausage rolls,” said Nina, “I’m thrilled to be collaborating with them to celebrate the return of the renowned Christmas menu.”
Greggs’ “joys comes wherever and whenever you choose to enjoy it,” and I’m thrilled to be bringing it to the holiday season. “Nigella has won legions of followers since her first cookbook How To Eat in 1998 through to 2020’s Cook, Eat, Repeat, and their accompanying television shows.
As the chain continued its expansion in the UK, Greggs has revealed that its sales have increased by more than a tenth in recent weeks. By the end of September, it had nearly 2, 560 stores serving its baked goods across the nation, and it has more than 150 locations opened this year.
Customers were able to pair the best bottles with a menu of bakes and rolls at its first champagne bar last month. The bar, which opened in Fenwick’s Newcastle store on October 24 and will remain open until December, has a price range of £75 per bottle, including a bottle of Louis Roederer Cristal, which can also be purchased by the bottle for £425.
It follows the first Greggs” fine dining “bistro at the same location last year, which served its popular festive bake alongside duck fat roasties, smoked pancetta, chestnuts and sprouts to more than 8, 000 customers over a single month. Starting on Thursday, Greggs stores will have the festive menu this year.
