Agnes Ngetich became the first woman to complete the 10-kilometer course in under 30 minutes, breaking a new world record for the event.

In Herzogenaurach, the 24-year-old Kenyan ran a time of 29 minutes, 27 seconds.

That broke Agnes Tirop’s 2021 record of 30: 01, which was set in the same German town.

Two years ago, Ngetich ran a time of 29:24 in a women’s only race, but the record was invalidated because the course was discovered to be 25 meters short.

She said, “I didn’t expect this, I’m so excited.”

“I attempted it last year by two seconds, so I wanted to try it again today.”

I’m incredibly proud of myself. I want to make up for it this year at the World Championships after missing out on the last two years’ Olympics.

Ngetich became the first woman to complete the 10 km world record in less than 29 minutes in a mixed-race competition last year in Valencia.
