Senegal Goal Hero Admits AFCON Final Walk-Off Was ‘A Mistake’

In an interview with French television on Sunday, Pape Gueye from Senegal revealed the walk-off between his country and Morocco and the subsequent missed penalty.

In a contentious game played in Rabat last week, Gueye scored the winning goal.

The eventual winners of the late penalty walk-off, which resulted in a 20-minute delay, awarded to Morocco.

Brahim Diaz reacted to his penalty, and Gueye added the winning goal in extra time.

The 26-year-old midfielder Gueye remarked, “We are only humans, we realized our mistake and came out.”

He continued, “Anyone can make a mistake.”

Sadio Mane, a former Liverpool star, remained on the field and was urged by Gueye to get his teammates to play again for the penalty.

Senegal were already furious after a soft-looking foul minutes earlier had been used to disqualify a goal.

Gueye expressed surprise that Diaz dared to execute a disastrous Panenka penalty.

Tinubu’s Minister Warns APC Against Ditching VP Shettima on 2027 Presidential Ticket

The All Progressives Congress (APC) should be advised against removing Vice President Kashim Shettima from the 2027 presidential ticket by Minister of Culture, Tourism, and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa.

The APC leader claimed that replacing Shettima, especially with a non-Northern Muslim, could lead to a severe political backlash in the North, according to a comment made on the Mic on a podcast with Channels TV Seun Okinbaloye.

Musawa emphasized that the party’s stability and chances of winning re-election would be hampered by the removal of the current “Muslim-Muslim” ticket.

“It creates a hurdle if there is no Hausa, Fulani, or Kanuri Muslim on that ticket.” That is how people actually think, Musawa said.

She emphasized that Northern Nigeria’s politics are deeply rooted and sophisticated, putting pressure on regionally based policies.

“The core North states, such as Katsina, Kano, Kaduna, Kebbi, Jigawa, Zamfara, and Sokoto, understand politics very well,” said one official. There is a way of life in politics. Because they believe they have influence there, people line up and vote every four years, she said.

Musawa refuted claims that such a move would lead to a reshuffle of the APC’s presidential ticket without having any consequences, blaming such presumptions as politically naive.

“I believe it is a problem if we play with changing the way things are in the present.” She said that those who make other claims may not fully comprehend how politics operates in the North.

Musawa expressed concern about growing opposition alliances ahead of 2027 when she questioned how the opposition forces are currently stacked against President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima.

She described the opposition as splintered, with various political figures fighting for the same position of power.

You have a crowded opposition, you say. Every member is competing for the same seat, Musawa said, adding that this alone sets off the possibility of political failure.

She continued to acknowledge that opposition figures were still influential and active, but she emphasized that the APC was still confident in its ability to hold onto power.

“We don’t take anyone lightly,” we say. However, she said, “I don’t understand how they can unseat President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima because the opposition is now emerging.”

Musawa stated that the ruling party is focused on strengthening its political base ahead of the upcoming election despite the APC applauding a strong opposition to democratic growth.

American Daredevil Free-Climbs Taiwan’s Tallest Building

On Sunday, an American climber made its first trip up Taipei 101 without a rope, harness, or safety net, taking on Taiwan’s tallest building.

At the base of the 101-story tower, hundreds of people gathered to watch Alex Honnold, 40, complete his daredevil feat, which was also streamed live on Netflix.

After an hour and a half, he was able to ascend 1, 667 feet (588) and ascend a triumphantly to reunite with his wife, Sanni McCandless Honnold.

Honnold stated at a press briefing that “time is finite” and that everyone should “use it in the best way.”

Honnold continued, “You can do hard things if you work really hard.”

Honnold rose to fame in 2017 after climbing Yosemite’s “El Capitan,” which was hailed by his peers as the pinnacle of technical difficulty on the massive granite monolith, and has conquered some of the world’s most intimidating rock faces.

Honnold stated to reporters that his original request had been rejected, adding that it had always been his dream to list Taipei 101 achievements. He declined to provide more specifics about why this was the case.

It’s amazing that the project came together more than ten years later. What a blessing, he continued, “it’s so enjoyable.”

Honnold is the first person to perform a solo climb of Taipei 101 without a rope, harness, or safety net.

Due to the rainy weather, Alain Robert, known as “the French Spiderman,” took on the challenge in 2004 as the first person to attempt it.

Onlooker Richard Bode, 34, described the event as a “once-in-a-lifetime experience,” with crowds of hundreds attending Sunday’s spectacle.

Honnold was “incredibly brave,” Benson, 24, told AFP, while Lin Chia-jou, 54, and others, like him, described it as “terrifying.”

In a Facebook post on Sunday, Taiwan’s President Lai Ching-te congratulated Honnold and called the task “truly moving.”

He continued, “The climb was tense, heart racing.”

Due to bad weather, the event, titled “Skyscraper Live,” was scheduled to air on Netflix on Saturday (1100 GMT).

When better weather allowed the climb, Honnold quickly moved up the southeast facing of the glass and steel building dressed in a red T-shirt and yellow custom-made climbing shoes on Sunday.

He once crossed the platform halfway up and waved at photographers and fans.

As Honnold passed the 89th floor’s enclosed observation deck, people inside the building could be seen groaning and tapping at the glass.

Paddy Pimblett suffered the first defeat of his UFC career against Justin Gaethje at UFC 324 in Las Vegas.

The lightweight interim title fight was a war that went against Pimblett in the end and the Liverpudlian now faces a spell on the sidelines recovering.

Pimblett, 31, was taken to hospital directly after the loss, missing the post-fight news conference, but was praised by Dana White as one of the division’s elite fighters.

The tough return – Arman Tsarukyan

Arman Tsarukyan was one of the first to take aim at Pimblett after the fight, suggesting he was “gifted” his opportunities in the UFC.

The lightweights have been sparring from a distance since Tsarukyan was overlooked for the interim title shot, despite being ranked number one in the division.

Tsarukyan is in truth a very tricky return. He is a solid all-round competitor and is on a five-fight unbeaten streak with just one loss in his past 11 contests.

The fight would generate a lot of interest and be another chance for Pimblett to show he belongs among the elite lightweights.

The grudge match – Dan Hooker

Pimblett and Dan Hooker feuding wouldn’t have been on many people’s bingo cards this year.

Hooker and Pimblett have both said some cruel things about each other in recent weeks.

Pimblett questioned Hooker’s grappling ability with a reference to his mother, while Hooker referenced the death of Pimblett’s close friend to hit back at a comment.

It means a proper grudge match is in the works and Hooker would be a favourable return for Pimblett considering the seasoned contenders currently sitting in the top five of the lightweight rankings.

The homecoming

UFC London takes place on 21 March. Usually the UFC host one UK event per year, but Pimblett’s stardom may convince the MMA promotion to sign off a homecoming.

Pimblett last fought in Liverpool in 2018, the same year UFC last held a fight night in the city.

The BMF fight – Max Holloway v Charles Oliveira winner

Before Ilia Topuria decided to take a hiatus, Pimblett was pencilled in to fight Charles Oliveira next.

The Brazilian is now booked to take on Max Holloway for the BMF title on 7 March in Las Vegas.

The BMF may be a symbolic title but it has turned into a status symbol for the UFC’s most exciting fighters.

Holloway currently holds the title. The fight would also serve as a potential rankings boost with Holloway at number three and Oliveira at number two.
