Truth behind Victoria Beckham’s wedding spat with Nicola that pushed Brooklyn to edge

Brooklyn claimed his mum Victoria pulled out of making wife Nicola’s wedding dress at the ‘eleventh hour’ – but sources say that’s not the case

Brooklyn Beckham pushed the “nuclear button” after being left haunted by the number of times his wife Nicola has been left in tears during the feud with his family. A source claimed that one “memorable example” was when Victoria Beckham pulled out of designing her wedding dress.

The insider claimed that Victoria ignored calls and texts from her stylist Leslie Fremar for an update saying she was too busy. Posh eventually called Nicola’s mum Claudia and said she couldn’t make the dress, before then allegedly texting Nicola to break the news.

A source told The Mirror: “Nicola was devastated…and Brooklyn is still smarting about the way it was handled as his explosive statement made clear. There have been other occasions too where his wife has been left tearful over the way she has been falsely portrayed.”

It’s also claimed that in the meantime Victoria offered to make Nicola’s mum Claudia and the bridesmaids couture dresses before changing her mind and offering something off the rack. By that point, it’s claimed her stylist was looking elsewhere.

But this version of events is at odds with the Beckhams, whose friends say she didn’t ignore the messages, and didn’t break the news by text to Nicola. They maintain that Victoria realised quickly that her atelier couldn’t handle the project and relayed this straight away to Claudia and Nicola. In the end, Nicola wore a Valentino couture creation to marry Brooklyn. Brooklyn had claimed that Victoria pulled out of making the dress at the “eleventh hour”.

We can reveal that these conversations happened in summer 2021 – eight months before their wedding. A Vogue article also says how Nicola and her mother made multiple trips to the Valentino atelier in Rome for the fittings, “over the year-long design process”.

A source said: “Maybe eight months before a wedding is the eleventh hour in celebrity land…..or maybe Brooklyn has got his dates muddled up.”

It comes as a guest at Brooklyn’s wedding dismissed his allegations of dirty dancing against mum Victoria, saying: “She was a bit wooden, but not sleazy.” But the partygoer at Brooklyn and Nicola’s reception in 2022 said they found Victoria’s dancing cringeworthy.

They told the Mirror: “It was inappropriate but only in the sense that she appeared to be the centre of attention when it should have been about the bride instead. There was no grinding. But it was a bit of a stiff, awkward performance.”

Brooklyn caused a sensation on Monday after accusing Victoria of hijacking his first dance to a live song at the US nuptials. He said: “She danced very inappropriately on me in front of everyone. I’ve never felt more uncomfortable or humiliated in my entire life.”

Brooklyn’s comments have led to Victoria being ridiculed on social media, with one AI meme portraying her dancing on a chat show. There has been speculation the mum of four was “grinding” on her son.

Stavros Agapiou, who attended the Florida wedding party with Fat Tony who was DJing, backed up Brooklyn’s account. In a now-deleted post on social media, Stavros said: “He’s telling the truth.” But later added: “Good on him for finally speaking out!” Last night Fat Tony jokingly compared Victoria’s wedding dance to an embarrassing scene from BBC sitcom Motherland.

In the show, Amanda – played by Lucy Punch – dances to the Lil’ Kleine and Ronnie Flex track Drank & Drugs in front of her stunned school mum friends.

Fat Tony shared a clip of this dance, adding: “Actual video footage, it’s true I was there!” Brooklyn and Nicola’s lavish and starstudded wedding was attended by 500 guests.

In his bombshell social media statement, he said: “Marc Anthony called me to the stage, where in the schedule was planned to be my romantic dance with my wife but instead my mum was waiting to dance with me instead.”

He added: “We wanted to renew our vows so we could create new memories of our wedding day that bring us joy and happiness, not anxiety and embarrassment.”

The guests had to hand in their phones so they were not able to film the event. Only one video of the dance, filmed by the official videographer, is believed to exist. It is thought to be in Brooklyn’s possession but insiders says it is unlikely he will release it.

Sources close to the Beckhams have denied there was anything inappropriate or cringeworthy about Victoria’s dancing. But a guest said: “It did rather feel like the Beckham show. Marc Anthony had been praising Victoria in between songs and then you had her go up on the dance floor for this moment. They added: “It was a bit much, and Nicola didn’t appear happy.”

Victoria Beckham single soars up charts as fans rush to support her over Brooklyn row

https://i2-prod.mirror.co.uk/incoming/article36596161.ece/ALTERNATES/s615/0_Victoria-Beckham.jpg

Although Victoria Beckham has been on the receiving end of memes and videos mocking her dancing after Brooklyn’s statement this week – it appears she’s got the last laugh

Victoria Beckham may have found a way to come out victorious after her son Brooklyn’s explosive statement slamming her.

The former Spice Girls singer, 51, has been on the receiving end of a flurry of videos and memes mocking her dancing after her soon Brooklyn, 26, claimed Lady Victoria “hijacked” his first dance with his bride Nicola Peltz at their 2022 wedding and “danced very inappropriately on me in front of everyone”.

While the videos and memes must be – to say the least – awkward for Victoria, there has been one good thing to come out of the increased attention, as a campaign to get her one of her solo songs back into the charts has been launched. Victoria kicked off her musical solo career in 2000, after the Spice Girls stopped recording following the release of their third album.

Her first solo project saw her collaborate with Dane Bowers and Truesteppers with the song Out of Your Mind. But it’s her second solo single Not Such An Innocent Girl which is seeing a chart revival. The 2001 track has shot to number one in the iTunes chart in Ireland this morning and sits in the number two slot in the UK.

Humour, optimism & learnings – how do you end a one-sided record?

Getty Images

It remains one of the greatest quips the game has heard.

“And let that be a lesson to you all. No-one beats Vitas Gerulaitis 17 times in a row.”

Gerulaitis’ acerbic assessment came in 1980 when the American finally beat Jimmy Connors after losing their previous 16 meetings.

British number two Cameron Norrie has also turned to drollness as he prepares to face another opponent who has a 100% winning record over him.

Norrie, Britain’s final hope in the Australian Open singles, faces Germany’s Alexander Zverev in the third round on Friday, having lost all six of their previous meetings.

Asked what he can use as a positive, 30-year-old Norrie joked: “I think I beat him in juniors once.”

Lopsided head-to-head records are not unusual at the highest level but some are considerably more dominant than others.

France’s Gael Monfils has lost all 20 of his meetings with 24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic – the worst head-to-head record in ATP Tour history.

Other flawed records include Richard Gasquet’s 18-0 against Rafael Nadal and David Ferrer’s 17-0 against Roger Federer.

Reigning Wimbledon champion Iga Swiatek, for example, has lost all of her six meetings with Latvia’s Jelena Ostapenko.

After losing to Ostapenko in Stuttgart last season, Swiatek disputed she had a mental block, saying her head “was much more clear” than previous matches.

But two-time major champion Coco Gauff, who lost her first seven matches to Swiatek, said finally beating the Pole allowed her to “play free” when they met.

American Gauff is now on a four-match winning streak against Swiatek, although she still trails 11-5 overall.

“It’s still a big gap in the head-to-head, [but] I just erase it from my mind. I can’t change the past, but I learned from it,” Gauff said.

“I don’t know how it will be at the end of our careers, but at least I know in future matches I won’t be starting with the mental deficit.”

Norrie is not a player who seems fazed by the player across the net.

But joking or not, harking back to beating Zverev when they played as teenagers over a decade ago might provide an additional boost.

“Since then he’s got me every single time. He’ll know that,” 26th seed Norrie said.

“But it’s nice being the underdog again. To go and play him, nothing to lose.”

There is no doubt 28-year-old Zverev has more damaging weapons than the Briton, but it remains a match-up that Norrie relishes.

Going toe-to-toe with the three-time Grand Slam finalist in a Melbourne five-set thriller two years ago provides optimism.

“It’s a match I feel quite comfortable with – especially in the rally I’m going to get rhythm,” said Norrie, who was ranked as high as eighth in the world in 2022.

“I’m going to have to really to push him and make him uncomfortable for four hours to have a chance.

Bangladesh adamant on playing T20 World Cup in Sri Lanka despite ICC threat

Despite the international cricket body’s refusal to change the schedule of the T20 World Cup, Bangladesh has reiterated their opposition to not visiting India for the tournament. They will once again request that Sri Lanka’s games be moved to Sri Lanka.

After a meeting between BCB officials, Bangladeshi cricketers, and government representatives in Dhaka on Thursday, BCB President Aminul Islam declared, “We will return to the ICC with our plan to play in Sri Lanka.”

The global cricket body made the announcement a day after it warned the BCB that if Scotland refused to play its matches in Group C, the men’s T20 World Cup could be played in India.

Within a day, the ICC requested from the BCB to review its decision with the Bangladeshi government and provide a response. Then, a final decision would be made.

A global body can’t really do that, Islam said to reporters. “They did give us a 24-hour ultimatum.

“We want to compete in the World Cup, but we won’t play in India.” He continued, “We will keep fighting.”

The ICC, according to the BCB chief, would have to suffer if Bangladesh were to be kicked out of the competition.

He claimed that “the ICC will miss out on the 200 million spectators of the World Cup.”

On February 7, Bangladesh will face the West Indies at Eden Gardens in Kolkata on the opening day of the competition. Before their final Group C game against Nepal at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium, they will play two additional group-stage games at the same venue.

However, the BCB has withdrawn its team’s travels to India because it is concerned about the security and safety of its players.

Due to the ongoing political unrest between the two countries, Mustafizur Rahman was abruptly removed from the Indian Premier League (IPL) at the request of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

The ICC announced on Wednesday that it had communicated with the BCB detailed independent security assessments, detailed venue-level security plans, and formal assurances from the host authorities, and that all reports stated that there was no “credible or vérifiable threat to the safety or security of the Bangladesh team in India.”

After the board of directors of the international body met via video conference to discuss the issue, an ICC spokesperson said, “Despite these efforts, the BCB kept its position by repeatedly linking its participation in the tournament to a single, unrelated, and unrelated development.”

The ICC spokesperson added that “this linkage has no impact on the tournament’s security framework or the requirements for participation in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.”

The ICC’s claims were refuted by Asif Nazrul, a youth and sports adviser in the interim Bangladeshi government, who claimed it had failed to address Bangladesh’s concerns.

He claimed that the ICC has not been able to persuade us about the security issue and has not addressed our grievances.

Even the Indian government failed to address our concerns or attempt to calm us.

“We are optimistic that the ICC will give us a chance to play in Sri Lanka.” Our country’s government has chosen not to visit India.

Litton Das, the captain of Bangladesh, expressed concern about the uncertainty surrounding the participation of his team before the most recent round of discussions.

After a Tuesday domestic cricket game, Das declared, “From where I stand, everyone is uncertain,”

Since August last year, when former prime minister Sheikh Hasina fled to New Delhi from Dhaka after an uprising against her rule, diplomatic relations between the once-close allies have been severely hampered.

India is at fault for a number of its problems, including Hasina’s support for the country’s prime minister when she was in power.

Osaka apologises for ‘disrespecting’ Cirstea

After receiving a frosty handshake and a telling-off from the Romanian, Naomi Osaka apologized for “disrespecting” Sorana Cirstea in her post-game on-court interview.

A jubilant Osaka made her way to the net to complete the post-match formalities following her 6-3, 4-6, and 6-2 victory over Cirstea in the Australian Open second round.

Cirstea, however, exchanged a brief handshake with the Japanese 16th seed before moving into conversation.

Osaka reportedly had a lot of “come ons” that she was upset about when asked in her on-court interview what it took to get past Cirstea.

The interviewer then inquired if Cirstea was making a complaint because she could hear Osaka trying to get her through the first and second serves of the Romanian.

“I believe so, but she might have questioned me,” she said. Osaka, the former world number one, apologized, “I’m sorry.

She excels as a player. I’m sorry, but I believe this was her final Australian Open.

Osaka apologized in a later press conference for some of her comments toward Cirstea, who will retire from tennis at the end of the 2026 campaign after 20 years on the WTA Tour.

“I’m a little perplexed. I suppose she had a lot of emotions going for her. The four-time major winner added, “I also want to apologize.”

“I believe the first few things I said on the court were disrespectful,” I thought. I dislike treating others badly. I don’t do that, I do.

Cirstea claimed there was “no drama” between her and Osaka, though.

“It was just a five-second exchange between two experienced tour players.” Cirstea, 35, said that it stays with us.

Osaka arrived on the court on Tuesday in a more relaxed version of her jellyfish-inspired outfit that stunned the crowd.

She made the decision to leave the white hat and veil behind and also arrived without the white umbrella, but some fans were still trying to imitate the already conventional look.

Osaka referred to her outfit as “just something fun that I like to do on the court.”

I don’t really talk a lot, but I do like to express myself through clothing, and I’m so glad you guys enjoyed it.

Osaka hopes to reach the fourth round of the Australian Open for the first time since 2021 when she won the event for the second time.

Czech teenager stuns Bencic

Nikola Bartunkova celebrates after winning against Switzerland's Belinda Bencic Images courtesy of Getty

Nikola Bartunkova, a Czech teenager, defeated Belinda Bencic, the tournament’s top seed, in the biggest upset thus far.

After recovering from a second-set bagel, Bartunkova, who made her Grand Slam debut, came to her knees to avenge a remarkable 6-3,0-6,6-4 victory over the Swiss former Olympic champion.

Bencic becomes the top female draw member after suffering her first defeat of the season after six straight victories.

When Bartunkova takes on Belgium’s Elise Mertens in the third round, she will hope to shock everyone.

Madison Keys, the defending champion, defeated Ashlyn Krueger 6-1 7-5 on Thursday, while Jessica Pegula, the country’s sixth seed, needed just 58 minutes to defeat McCartney Kessler, who lost to her doubles partner, 6 (6).
