Former government insider takes aim at US’s policy on Israel

Stage of the Center

Josh Paul, former US Bureau of Political-Military Affairs director of congressional affairs, is in the spotlight. Paul resigned in 2023 to protest US involvement in Israel’s occupation of Gaza. Since then, he has co-founded A New Policy, a political movement that advocates for changes in US policy toward Israel and Palestine. Paul discusses his resignation, whether Washington has learned anything, and whether the United States is unprepared to repeat its mistakes.

Sinner, Osaka through to the third round at Australian Open

Two-time defending ‌champion Jannik Sinner has outclassed home wildcard James Duckworth 6-1, 6-4, 6-2 ‍to stroll into ‍the third round of the Australian Open.

The Italian world number two was in no mood on Thursday for an extended shift on a cool Rod Laver Arena as he set up a last-32 clash with American Eliot Spizzirri.

It was Sinner’s 27th successive tour-level victory against Australian players, his last defeat against one coming against Duckworth in Toronto in 2021.

But ‍a repeat of that outcome never looked likely as Sinner produced an immaculate display from the back of the court.

“Every match is difficult. So happy to be in the next round,” Sinner, ‍who has won his last 12 matches without dropping a set, said on court. “Very happy with my performance.

“I know how much work I’ve put in, so the body feels good and the mind is in a good moment.”

From the moment he drilled a backhand winner into the corner to break Duckworth’s serve in the fourth game, he was in control and was gifted a second service break with a double fault.

Sinner claimed ‌the first set in 26 minutes, and although Duckworth offered more resistance in the second with some aggressive play, the Italian’s controlled power and placement was too much for his 34-year-old opponent.

A forehand ‌winner earned him a break point at 3-3, and Duckworth blazed wildly long as the pressure told.

Duckworth’s winners were ‌loudly applauded by the evening crowd, but the end came quickly, and Sinner finished it off with an ace – his 18th of the match.

Sinner has spent less than three hours on court to reach the third round, and he will be the heavy ‌favourite against 85th-ranked Spizzirri, who survived a five-setter against China’s Wu Yibing.

“I’ve been watching him also last year a little bit – very aggressive on the court and ‍a big server also,” Sinner said.

“I don’t know him as well because we haven’t played yet, but I’m hoping for a great match.”

Osaka beats Cirstea in three sets

Naomi Osaka overcame a second-set wobble ‍to beat Romania’s Sorana ‍Cirstea 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 in the second round.

Osaka, who won the Australian Open in 2019 and 2021, made a shaky start against Cirstea, dropping the opening game on her serve and committing early errors.

She soon shook off ‌the cobwebs and broke to level at 2-2 before breaking again for a 5-3 lead and then defending a break point to hold serve and take the opening set.

The 35-year-old Cirstea, who will retire at the end of the year, again took an early lead in ‌the second set, and although Osaka levelled at 2-2, the Romanian broke in a decisive moment to force a final set.

Osaka, the 16th seed, took a break between ‌sets and then another medical timeout while leading 3-1 in the decider, but any concern was short-lived.

With her movement seemingly hampered, the Japanese former world number one responded by dialling up the intensity of her ground strokes and overwhelming Cirstea to seal the win.

The final set was also tinged with some drama as Cirstea took issue with Osaka pumping ‌herself up by shouting, “Come on,” between the Romanian’s first and second serves.

“[There were] apparently a lot of ‘come ons’ that she was angry about. I mean I tried to play well. I think I hit a lot of unforced errors, ‍but I tried my best,” Osaka said.

“She’s a great player. I think this was her last Australian Open, so sorry she was mad about it.”

Osaka faces Australian qualifier Maddison Inglis in the third round.

I ditched injectables for this no-crease concealer that fakes the look of 8 hours of sleep

Charlotte Tilbury debuted a new concealer at the recent Golden Globe Awards, and I’ve been testing it out ahead of its launch today too – and am so impressed

Under-eye dark circles are a common beauty complaint for many – including myself – and they can be tricky to treat. I’ve previously seen good results from having polynucleotides injected around my eye area – often referred to as ‘the salmon sperm facial’ – but I haven’t had this topped up for almost a year now, and the effects have long faded. To make things worse, I’ve recently been having horrendous nights’ sleep – and it’s certainly showing in the pronounced circles and bags under my eyes.

To see if it would help, I got my hands on the new Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Blur Concealer, £31, ahead of it launching today, after seeing it debuted on stars such as Teyana Taylor and Kate Hudson at the Golden Globes last week. It promises something of a rare find with concealers: a full-coverage formula that doesn’t crease in fine lines – and I have to say, I’ve been totally bowled over by how good it is. Here’s why…

Because of the aforementioned tired eyes, I almost always use a concealer whenever I do my make-up, not just under my eyes but also around my nose to disguise redness. At the age of 37, however, I usually opt for a creamy, fairly sheer formula over a full coverage one to avoid it looking too matte and cakey, and settling into the fine lines around my eyes.

This Charlotte Tilbury concealer, however, has been a revelation. Wearing shade 3.5, I found that it expertly covers up my dark circles with minimal product needed, it blends out really easily, and doesn’t crease at all in the little lines around my eyes. I find that some heavy duty concealers can actually be quite ageing as they can appear quite dry, but not this one – it really does give something resembling a ‘flawless’ effect, and expertly hides signs of tiredness.

Even better, it stays looking fresh all day long, without settling into creases as the day goes on, and layers really well with your other make-up; in these photos I’m wearing another Charlotte Tilbury hero product, Hollywood Flawless Filter, as a base. Together I think they leave skin still looking natural and glowing, but with coverage just where it’s needed.

If I had to try to find a downside, I’d say that the applicator isn’t great for very precise application – it’s quite firm, and deposits quite a lot of product – and the tube somehow gets messy very quickly.

It’s probably also not for you if you have very dry or very mature skin and need a moisturising concealer, as it isn’t completely invisible on the skin. In which case you might be better off with something like ILIA True Skin Serum Concealer, £30, instead, or Glossier Stretch Balm, £22 – however you won’t get the same level of coverage with formulas such as these, and you can expect some creasing to occur.

In short, though, I’ve been so impressed this new Charlotte Tilbury concealer. While it won’t permanently replace aesthetic treatments for me, it’s a new firm favourite in my make-up bag for banishing signs of tiredness.

How Brooklyn Beckham could be left with nothing as future hinges on tight prenup

https://i2-prod.mirror.co.uk/incoming/article36592990.ece/ALTERNATES/s615/4_Vogue-World-Hollywood-2025-Arrivals.jpg

Brooklyn reportedly signed a pre-nup ahead of his 2022 wedding to Nicola Peltz, which has left his parents David and Victoria fearing for his future

Brooklyn Beckham reportedly signed a pre nuptial agreement ahead of his 2022 wedding to Nicola Peltz, which means he isn’t entitled to a penny of her family’s wealth if they split.

The amateur chef made a bold move in cutting off his millionaire parents this week. The amateur chef could now be left with nothing after alienating himself and being “completely absorbed” into his wife’s family.

The fears come after he made a shocking number of claims on Monday night aimed at his famous family. He alleged that his parents had tried to “ruin” his relationship with his wife, adding they’d pressured him to “signing away the rights” to his name.

But Brooklyn’s pre-nup means he’d only walk away with half of what he and Nicola – whose businessman father Nelson is worth an estimated £1.2billion – have earned as a brand.

A source told The Sun : “The fear is that he has been completely absorbed into the Peltzes and has become alienated from everyone else. If they ever did break up, Brooklyn would be completely ostracised and without much cash to show for it.

“It’s as if he’s being held captive or something, because heartbreakingly, that’s what it feels like for them. His future is completely in the hands of the Peltzes.”

It’s thought David and Victoria have further concerns after Brooklyn changed his Instagram photo to one of his neck, which is covered in a tattoo of Nicola’s eyes.

In an unprecedented statement, Brooklyn said he had no intention of ever reconciling with his family and blasted their “performative social media posts” and “inauthentic relationships”.

He shared: “I do not want to reconcile with my family. I’m not being controlled, I’m standing up for myself for the first time in my life. For my entire life, my parents have controlled narratives in the press about our family. The performative social media posts, family events and inauthentic relationships have been a fixture of the life I was born into.”

Brooklyn made a string of allegations about his parents’ behaviour at his wedding, accusing his mum of cancelling making Nicola Peltz’s dress “at the eleventh hour” and he also accused his mum of “dancing very inappropriately on me in front of everyone”.

The statement has shocked the wider showbiz world – with reports that Brooklyn may even consider writing a tell-all book about his family, akin to what Prince Harry did with his memoir Spare.

“This wasn’t a final cry for help. If people think it’s the end, it’s actually the beginning,” a source warned of Brooklyn’s next plans. There are reports he will consider releasing a tell-all book.

“He’s always said he wasn’t interested. Maybe one day. Maybe in the future. But not now. This is the first time he’s seriously considered telling his side of the story to clear the air. He’s sick of others rewriting it for him,” a source told the Mail.

“There’s no doubt this would be a bestseller. Lifting the lid on the Beckham brand is something everyone would read. He’s not someone who’s going to quietly sail off into the sunset. Nicola’s career is ramping up and he wants his too. This is strategic.”

The Beckhams have not specifically replied to Brooklyn’s scathing statement but David, at the World Economic Forum in Davos, did an interview where he spoke about his kids’ mistakes.

“I have always spoken about social media and the power of social media . . . For the good and for the bad. What kids can access these days, it can be dangerous. But what I have found personally, especially with my kids as well, use it for the right reasons. I’ve been able to use my platform for my following, for UNICEF,” he said.

“And it has been the biggest tool to make people aware of what’s going on around the world for children. And I have tried to do the same with my children, to educate them. They make mistakes, but children are allowed to make mistakes. That is how they learn. That is what I try to teach my kids. You sometimes have to let them make those mistakes as well.”

The Mirror has contacted a representative for Brooklyn for comment.
