NBA’s Lakers, Clippers To Play In Wildfire-Ravaged Los Angeles

As firefighters battled massive blazes that have claimed at least 16 lives and left thousands without homes, the Los Angeles Lakers and Clippers were getting ready for a return to NBA action on Monday.

The NBA had delayed Thursday’s Lakers game against the Charlotte Hornets because it didn’t want to use the resources that the wildfire response had generated.

However, both teams were gearing up for Monday games: the Lakers and the Clippers and the Los Angeles Lakers.

At their upcoming games at Crypto, the Lakers announced they would be holding a donation drive. Fans are encouraged to bring food and non-food items to those affected by the fires to Com Arena starting on Monday.

At Clippers practice, Lue was asked if he thought playing Monday’s games was the best move given that more than 100,000 people are still under evacuation orders.

“It’s above my pay grade,” Lue said. The NBA, in my opinion, has a good understanding of what is happening and what needs to be done. So they make the decision.

They are aware that California is going through a difficult time right now, and they are aware of this.

“Hopefully we can bring some kind of joy with the game coming back tomorrow,” he added, “try to put some smiles on people’s faces in tough times. ”

Lakers coach JJ Redick, whose home was among those destroyed in the Palisades fire, had said much the same this week even as he described the “complete devastation” in his neighbourhood.

Despite the injuries to players, coaches, and other staff, both teams have continued to hold training sessions.

Authorities warned on Sunday that the expected Tuesday morning high winds would result in “extreme fire behavior and life-threatening conditions.”

Officials were launching search and rescue operations in charred neighborhoods as soon as looting was a thing of the past.

“It’s very difficult,” Lue said. “People are losing their homes, people are losing schools, losing lives. Because life is so much bigger than basketball, it is very challenging to concentrate on basketball. ”
