Natasha: What Led To Shouting Match At Senate Committee – Nwebonyi

Senator Onyekachi Nwebonyi, a lawmaker representing Ebonyi North Senatorial District, narrated what took place at the hearing of the Senate Ethics Committee.

As the committee began looking into allegations of sexual harassment against Kogi Central Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan and Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Nwebonyi and former education minister Oby Ezekwesili verbally abused each other on Tuesday in Abuja.

When Nwaebonyi began making offensive remarks, calling Ezekwesili an “insult to womanhood” and a “hologan,” tensions erupted.

The senator berated the former minister for calling him a hooligan and telling him to shut up when he asked him to do so during an interview with Channels Television’s Politics Today.

He said, “The conversation started when she was asked to take an oath because she claimed to be a witness.” She responded, “No, she can’t be on oath, she can’t oath.”

I sworn on the oath to give my own evidence, as a person. I addressed the presiding office. She said, “You’re a hooligan, please shut up your mouth,” and I replied, “Won’t you?”

The Ebonyi lawmaker responded, “You are the hooligan,” to the Ebonyi lawmaker, saying, “I don’t care.” For a mother of your generation, a grandmother of your caliber, a former federal republic minister to declare that I am a hooligan to a senator in the audience.

Nwebonyi said that despite what had transpired, he still has no regrets despite how much he respects Ezekwesili as a woman.

The lawmaker questioned why she would treat him in such a manner when asked if his response to the former minister was fair.
