Natalie Imbruglia addresses rumours she has rekindled her relationship with her ex-husband Silverchair’s Daniel Johns after calling him ‘the love of her life’
Natalie Imbruglia has put rumours she has rekindled her romance with her ex-husband, Silverchair’s Daniel Johns, to bed.
The singer, 47, said the suggestion they are back together 14 years after their divorce is ‘rubbish’.
Despite previously stating Johns, 43, was the ‘love of her life’ she she said she’s just glad they’re in a ‘good place’ after not speaking for 10 years.
Speaking Nova FM’s Fitzy & Wippa Thursday morning, radio host Ryan Fitzgerald grilled the Torn hit maker about reports they are back together after Daniel’s kind words about Natalie hosting the ARIA Awards Thursday night.
‘Oh that’s rubbish,’ she said immediately. ‘That’s rubbish. It’s nice that we’re in a good place. And I think, you know, I’m really happy about that.’
It comes days after Daniel sent a touching message of support to his ex-wife Natalie as the former Neighbours actress prepared for her hosting gig.
The musician, who was married to the songstress from 2003 to 2008, said Natalie would do an ‘amazing job’ hosting the music industry’s night of nights.
He posted the message during an Instagram Q&A session saying he wouldn’t be attending the ARIA Awards ceremony because he doesn’t ‘like crowds’, but believed ‘Natalie Imbruglia will do an amazing job as host’.
Natalie declared Daniel as the ‘love of her life’ during a November 2021 Spotify podcast series about his troubled life.
Despite the bitter nature of their divorce, Natalie now considers her ill-fated marriage to Daniel a gift.
She said on the Who is Daniel Johns? podcast: ‘He was the love of my life and I think in time you realise that’s a really special thing and you look back on it fondly, and it doesn’t come around that often that you can both feel that way about each other.’
Daniel also had positive things to say about his ex-wife, insisting their relationship simply didn’t work out because they had different goals in life.
Meeting the pop star at 19, Daniel said Natalie taught him ‘how to be a man.’
He later admitted the couple did not speak for ten years after they split. ‘We’re friends now,’ he said during an interview with The Project last year.
Natalie met the rocker at an awards show in 1999 and they married four years later on New Year’s Eve in a beachside ceremony in Queensland.
