What’s stopping Natalie Cassidy from marrying cameraman Marc Humphreys, who also co-worked with her on EastEnders? Since she has been engaged to him for ten years?

Natalie Cassidy has been engaged to her fiancé Marc Humphreys for 10 years but with a busy acting career, the star has never found time to plan their dream wedding. The couple live in Hertfordshire with her daughters Joanie, eight, and Eliza, 14 – not far from the EastEnders studio where she’s been filming scenes as Sonia Fowler since she was 10 years old. But now that she’s bid farewell to the role that made her famous, Natalie hopes to at least start thinking about the wedding. She laughs, “That would be nice wouldn’t it? It’s a bit of a nightmare. We’re always busy and we always say yes to things, but it’d be nice to think about it.”

While she still has a strong love for Marc, who was the cameraman on the soap’s live 40th anniversary episode, Natalie admits she is career-focused and would prioritize finding new work before organizing the big day. Having said that, she states, “It’s important. You can’t turn down good opportunities if you’re getting them, but I think you could just work out a little more because EastEnders is such a big machine and need to plan accordingly.

Sonia is still on-screen preparing for the funeral of her ex-husband Martin Fowler (James Bye). However, Natalie has already left the set following an emotional leaving party. “I’ve only been gone a few weeks so it feels a bit like I’m still on holiday but it’s just really nice,” says Natalie. “It’s going to be a good change.”

When she left, Natalie’s friends on the show gave her a special gift to commemorate one of Sonia’s iconic storylines – learning the trumpet as a teenager. “I had a really nice leaving do,” says Natalie. “Everybody was there, all the crew, costume, make-up and friends that I’ve known for a very long time. We had a really nice evening and they gave me a lovely little necklace with a trumpet on.”

Natalie also brought along another keepsake to honor the soap’s era. She says, “I removed the plaque from my dressing room door.” It’s emotional because you miss the people, but it’s time for a change, he said. I’m glad I made the decision, and I’m happy that they left me with a door open.

After successful comedy turns in Diane Morgan’s Mandy and BBC One hit Motherland, Natalie dreams of a role in a classic sitcom. And she’s already bagged a role in BBC Three’s teen comedy Boarders. “I love comedy or even an old-fashioned kind of sitcom,” says Natalie. “Amandaland is out at the moment. I think they should bring back studio sitcoms, I just love a bit of comedy.”

A travelogue with Patsy Palmer, who has played her sister Bianca for more than 30 years, is another dream role. Because we are like real sisters, Natalie says, “I always think Patsy and I should do something.” Therefore, it would be fun to record a travelogue with us together while we were traveling.

EastEnders bosses made good use of Natalie before she left the soap, writing incredible scenes for Sonia in the 40th anniversary live episode, which was watched by 3.7 million people. During the episode pregnant Sonia became trapped in The Queen Vic following an explosion, before giving birth on the floor. “It was brilliant,” grins Natalie. “It was a real challenge being asked to give birth on-screen live but it was an honour.

Because of the change, we had the most amazing time. We had 10 days to really focus on that one episode and rehearse it, compared to the typical 16 scenes you produce every day. To be in such a lovely bubble. Simply put, it was a wonderful way to end our relationship.

Now Natalie is shaking off Sonia for good with some hair extensions, highlights and a manicure. “I’ve had some lovely extensions put in my hair, which I’ve not been able to do for a long time,” says Natalie. “I’ve got a little bit more length in it, and I’ve gone a bit lighter with a few red and blonde shades. It is very different to Sonia, and I’ve had my nails done. It feels lovely to be that little bit more me.”

Natalie will always be a viewer of EastEnders, even if she may not be on screen. “I’ll always miss Sonia, but I’m going to watch the show,” says Natalie. The entire show is a huge fan for me. Eliza and I both enjoy watching it. I’ll follow all of my friends and stay in touch with everyone. And Sonia never travels too far.

Striking out in a new direction, Natalie has now filmed a new series called What’s The Big Deal: Britain’s Best Buys? for Channel 4, investigating the UK’s most talked-about products and finding out whether they’re worth the hype. Viral products like LED face masks, ice baths, packing cubes and lion’s mane mushrooms are put to the test by Natalie and a panel of six families.

It’s nice to have a really deep look at something to see if it’s really worth it, says Natalie, because we all sit and look at things and buy things we don’t need. Those one-click purchases are the focus! “Natalie looks into some high-end products, but one of the smaller ones has completely altered her life,” she says. I thought, “Is that a little boring? ” as we do vegetable choppers in one of the episodes. However, there are so many variations! “says Natalie,” she says. I love to cook, but because I have a bad cut and am left-handed, it just takes me forever. I immediately went online and purchased a vegetable chopping box as soon as we had the video. It has changed my life, and it’s a lifesaver.

Natalie endures ice baths, opts for free make-up consultations, and even allows body fat experts to assess her body fat as she examines body fat scales to help consumers choose what to buy. I don’t think everyone would do that, “laughs Natalie,” but I do think it’s really refreshing for someone to jump on the scales and display their body fat. It was attractive for women, in my opinion. It’s absurd to have a BMI.

“I’m practically obese on a BMI scale, even though I’m actually under average weight in this day and age.” The issue with body fat is absurd. We shouldn’t let people be dictated by the scales.
