Music fans floored as they learn ‘real meaning’ of Panic! At The Disco’s name

Panic! Fans of The Disco have been a long-standing favorite in the music business for 20 years, but some have only recently realized the true meaning of the band’s name.

Panic! The Disco has always had a talent for producing infectious pop rock anthems that have stood the test of time.

Bursting onto the music scene two decades ago, their hits like “I write sins, not tragedies” and “nine in the afternoon” continue to resonate with fans – even today.

However, despite their long-standing presence in the industry, the meaning behind the band’s name remains a mystery to some. When a user asked, “Did Panic! ” in a recent Reddit thread, the discussion started to elicit a lot of interest. How did The Disco get their name from “The Smiths”?

The question sparked a flurry of theories and concepts regarding the band’s name’s origins. One user commented: “The Smiths influenced so many great bands, but so many awful ones too”.

Another added: “I don’t believe so, but Panic! The Smiths are one of the influences mentioned by The Disco. A third chimed in with: “I didn’t hear it, but good for them”.

Meanwhile, fourth noted: “Brendon Urie has covered some Smiths songs before”. In other words, people had all sorts of different ideas.

Some fans have speculated that the band’s name was inspired by The Smiths ‘ 1987 track “Panic”, which features the lyric “burn down the disco”. However, it’s believed that Brendon Urie, the frontman, took the name from a less well-known group called Name Taken, who were active in the late 1990s.

They also penned a track titled “Panic”, which included the catchy lyrics: “Panic at the disco/Sat back and took it so slow/Are you nervous? /Are you shaking”?

Name Taken was first released under the pseudonym “All That’s Left” in the beginning, but it had to change when it realized the name had already been adopted.

Just like Panic! A group of high schoolmates who started their musical careers together when they were younger formed Name Taken at The Disco.

Despite what some people believe, it appears that the band’s name is actually quite special. Although another band gave them inspiration, it wasn’t what many people were expecting.
