Murder Charge: Lagos Re-Arraigns Evans Over Police Officers’ Death
The Lagos State Government has re-arraigned convicted billionaire kidnapper, Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike, popularly known as Evans, before a Lagos High Court sitting in Ikeja for the murder of two police officers.
Evans and his co-defendant, Joseph Emeka, were arraigned before Justice Adenike Coker on a five-count charge of murder, attempted murder, and conspiracy to commit kidnapping.
They both pleaded not guilty. The prosecutor, Yusuf Sule, then asked the court for a date so that the trial could proceed. The judge sought to know about the report on the defendant’s plea bargain application. The state government’s proposed committee is currently in session, the prosecutor told the court.
Emefo Etudo, Evans’ lead defense counsel, claims that he was the first defendant when he first started the case and that the plea bargain request should be pursued rather than a trial.

Additionally, Chief Etudo added that Evans’ plea for a plea bargain is focused on two more pressing criminal cases, two of which are being heard on compassionate grounds.
Evans, who is currently being held, recently received a Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) while he is in custody and is willing to pursue a PhD in his studies.
In order to assist in educating the youth against crime, the attorney requested that the Lagos State government grant his client a second chance.
Justice Coker set up a hearing in the case for March 20 to prepare the report on the plea bargain application and acknowledged Evans’ request for a hearing.
The Back Story
Evans was charged five times by the Lagos High Court’s various judges.
Justice Hakeem Oshodi sentenced Evans to life in prison in February 2022 for the murder of Donatus Dunu, the CEO of Maydon Pharmaceuticals Ltd.
In September 2022, another judge of the High Court, Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo (now retired), sentenced Evans to 21 years imprisonment for kidnapping a businessman, Sylvanus Ahamonu, and collecting the sum of $420, 000 as ransom from his family.
