Moore targeting Wrexham and Wales double

Having achieved a career and life hat-trick four years ago, Kieffer Moore now hopes a double could be on the cards in 2026.

In addition to getting engaged, the striker helped Bournemouth gain promotion to the Premier League in 2021-22, while also playing a key role in getting Wales to the 2022 World Cup.

With the 2025-26 Championship run-in heating up, the 33-year-old is now targeting promotion with Wrexham as well as hoping to reach this summer’s World Cup finals – with Wales involved in March play-offs.

“That would be amazing,” Moore told BBC Match of the Day Wales.

Having suffered play-off final heartache against Sunderland at Wembley last season, Moore made the bold call to leave Sheffield United for Wrexham in the summer.

But having netted 12 goals in all competitions so far this season and with the Red Dragons sitting in the second tier’s play-off places at present, the forward feels his decision to move to Stok Cae Ras has been fully vindicated.

“As soon as Wrexham came forward, there was only one decision in my head and I’ve been delighted to be on the scoresheet many times,” he said.

“It’s been a whirlwind since that point but it’s been amazing.

Wrexham put their promotion push to one side this weekend as they host another of Moore’s former clubs, Ipswich Town, in the fourth round of the FA Cup on Friday night (19:45 GMT).

Phil Parkinson’s men stunned Premier League Nottingham Forest in the third round and are targeting a spot in the fifth round for the first time in almost three decades.

It has ensured a significant amount remains at stake over the coming months, particularly for Moore.

Having helped Bournemouth and Ipswich reach the top-flight over recent years, few are better qualified than the former lifeguard when it comes to assessing a side’s hopes of promotion.

And Moore believes many of the qualities that were present during his successful periods with the Cherries and the Tractor Boys are on show at Wrexham.

“We’ve got a very good dressing room here and at Ipswich it was incredible to be a part of that and the dressing room was very good,” he explained.

Amid Wrexham’s top six push and quest for cup success is the small matter of a potential World Cup play-off double header with Wales for Moore.

Craig Bellamy’s men take on Bosnia and Herzegovina at Cardiff City Stadium on 26 March, with the winner of that fixture hosting either Italy or Northern Ireland in the play-off final five days later.

Moore featured at Euro 2020 and the 2022 World Cup in Qatar before missing out on Euro 2024 after Wales were beaten by Poland on penalties in the play-off final.

But the frontman is confident home advantage can help ensure Bellamy’s side have no such heartache this year.

“It’ll be an incredible atmosphere, no doubt,” added Moore.

“I’m extremely excited. I can’t really wait to have that build-up get started.
