Members of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) have raised serious concerns about a bill before the United States Congress, titled H.R. 7457 – Nigeria Religious Freedom and Accountability Act of 2026, describing it as legally unjust and dangerously simplistic.
Addressing journalists in Abuja, the association rejected the proposed legislation, maintaining that associating its members with terrorists and mass atrocities in Nigeria is both unfounded and injurious to the integrity of a duly registered national association.
President of MACBAN, Othman Ngelzarma, urged the President of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives to urgently engage with U.S. lawmakers through diplomatic channels to correct what he described as false insinuations.

The association also warned of the potential consequences of allowing such labelling and the proposed sanctions to pass.
The bill was introduced by Chris Smith, Riley Moore, Brian Mast, Mario Diaz-Balart, and Bill Huizenga.
It is seeking to impose sanctions on the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), and Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore and former Kano State Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso, for alleged violations of religious freedom.
