22 soldiers died during one of the country’s north-east region’s military operations, according to the military authorities in Nigeria.  ,
The incident occurred as part of a clearance exercise at the notorious Timbuktu Triangle, a terrorist stronghold and enclave, according to the Defense Headquarters (DHQ).
In a statement released on Sunday, Director of Defense Media Operations Edward Buba said, “Overall, troops sadly recorded 22 killed in action casualties and several others wounded in action.”

He claimed that the three-prong operation, which started on January 25 and continued to this day, was intended to completely eradicate the terrorist presence through a triangle.
Buba, however, said the troops killed over 70 terrorists including some of their commanders during the operations.
Over 70 terrorists were combatants, including 3 renowned terrorist commanders, according to Troops who witnessed several encounters with terrorists during the clearance operations. The terrorist commanders neutralised include and are not limited to the following: TALHA (Terrorist Special Forces Commander), Mallam UMAR (Terrorist Operations commander), and ABU YAZEED (Terrorist Brigade Commander)”, he said.
The terrorists used Person Bourne Improvised Explosive Devices (suicide bombers), Vehicle Bourne Improvised Explosive Devices (suicide bombers in explosive vehicles) to thwart troops’ advance and attacks, according to the DHQ.
