Former England rugby ace Mike Tindall has expressed his eagerness to swap the rough and tumble of the pitch for the flour-dusted benches of the Celebrity Great British Bake Off tent. A ‘big fan’ of the Channel 4 hit, Tindall’s retirement from professional sports hasn’t dulled his competitive streak, as he now aims to conquer the culinary landscape with his baking expertise.

Tindall, a podcasting sensation who also ventured into the jungle on ‘ I’m A Celebrity’, openly shared his affinity for baking over cooking, showcasing his prowess by whipping up brownies in an online post during lockdown five years ago. He confessed to The Times: “I don’t cook because I’m not skilled enough, but I’m more of a baker. I’m good at making bread and butter puddings and brownies.”

His ambitions, however, are met with jest at home, as he revealed that his wife, royal Zara Tindall, might not always celebrate his sweet creations: “If you keep baking those things for your wife, she won’t like you in the end.”

Tindall humorously noted, though he mentioned finding a balance that delights both him and his wife: “If you only make puddings every now and then, they can have a sweet tooth, but you won’t make her fat.”

The couple, who first crossed paths during the 2003 Rugby World Cup in Australia, celebrated their union with a dazzling ceremony in Edinburgh seven years later and have since welcomed three children, Mia, Lena, and Lucas, reports Wales Online.

Since hanging up his boots in 2014, Mike continues to keep rugby close to his heart as part of the much-loved podcast trio, The Good, The Bad and The Rugby, alongside fellow ex-rugby pro James Haskell. Beyond the world of podcasting, he’s also made a name for himself on the small screen post-retirement, with stints on shows such as The Jump, Bear Grylls: Mission Survive.

In 2022, he even braved the jungle, finishing fourth in ITV’s I’m A Celebrity, trailing behind Matt Hancock, Owen Warner and Jill Scott.

It comes after Mike and Zara Tindall were tipped to follow in the footsteps of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle in making a major life change. The couple are rumoured to be considering a move Down Under. The pair first locked eyes in Sydney during the 2003 Rugby World Cup and have described Australia as a “home from home for us” in an interview with HELLO!

Following their recent visit last month, betting experts are suggesting the move could become permanent, with odds of 8/13 being offered.

Casinos.com’s James Leyfield commented: “During their latest Australian trip, Zara admitted the couple ‘couldn’t ask for a better way to start the year.’ The pair’s connection to Australia is deeply rooted. They first met in Sydney in 2003-introduced by Zara’s cousin, Prince Harry-while Mike was playing rugby for England during the World Cup and Zara was on a gap year.”
