According to a statement released on Wednesday from Metadata, the company has agreed to pay President Donald Trump $ 25 million to settle his lawsuit against Facebook and Instagram for wrongfully censoring him after the riot in the US Capitol.

In what was viewed as a victory for Trump, the lawsuit brought against Meta and its CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, was settled for the first time.

The Journal reported that the Journal’s disclosure of the agreement will pay for Trump’s upcoming presidential library’s legal costs and other plaintiffs’ expenses.

Meta in the settlement won’t admit wrongdoing in relation to Trump’s account suspension suspensions.

The settlement was confirmed to AFP by Meta’s spokesperson.

Trump’s comments on social media platforms, including those that were seen as praising those who participated in the violence, were widely criticized after his supporters suspended his accounts after the insurrection on January 6, 2021.

However, he has recently courted tech gizmo Zuckerberg and Elon Musk, both of whom were present at Trump’s inauguration last week in Washington.

Zuckerberg has expressed support for Trump, and he has tweaked Meta’s policies to lift restrictions on some content within the company’s apps, which include Facebook, Instagram, Threads and WhatsApp.

Meta would be “restoring free expression on our platforms”, Zuckerberg, who reportedly dined with Trump at his Florida estate in November, said this month in announcing a rollback of fact-checking operations.

The settlement is the media’s most recent blunder as they prepare for a second Trump presidency.

In order to resolve a defamation lawsuit brought by Trump in December by a top anchor, ABC News agreed to pay a $ 15 million settlement.

Meta reported earlier on Wednesday that its net income increased by 59 percent to $62.36 billion for the full year.
