Australian designer Lillian Khallouf claims Gigi Hadid STOLE her look at the Met Gala after the supermodel wore a familiar looking black-and-white Prada gown
Australian fashion designer Lillian Khallouf has claimed supermodel Gigi Hadid ‘stole her look’ at the 2021 Met Gala this week.
Gigi, 26, made best-dressed lists across the globe as she arrived at the star-studded event in a custom-made gown by Prada.
Moments after photos of Gigi’s outfit surfaced online, Sydney-based Lillian posted to Instagram claiming the outfit was a copy of the dress she wore to her own wedding.
Posting a series of photos comparing the two looks, Lillian wrote: ‘When @gigihadid steals your look at the #METGALA.’
‘Thanks @prada @mimicuttrell I’ll take that as a major compliment,’ she added.
Lillian married her partner Moei Elayoubi in April, walking down the aisle in a strapless, white gown with a plunging corset bodice.
A layer of black fabric poked out from beneath the bodice, while a train of black and white fabric fell to the floor at the back.
She teamed the look with black opera gloves, pearl earrings and a chunky pearl necklace.
Similarly, Gigi’s gown featured a strapless, white corset bodice with black fabric poking through.
The mother-of-one also styled her look with black opera gloves, and accessorised with diamond stud earrings and a chunky diamond necklace.
Of course, there were clear differences between the two looks – Gigi sports a long, wavy ponytail secured with a hair clip, while Lillian wore her hair in a curly up-do.
The shape of the bodices also differ dramatically, with Gigi’s dress featuring a more boxy silhouette while Lillian’s corset was gently draped with a plunging neckline.
Further, the back of the gowns are also markedly different, as Lillian’s dress features a dramatic train, while Gigi’s frock has a thigh split.
Despite the obvious differences, many of Lillian’s fans questioned whether Lillian’s dress had been the inspiration for Gigi’s Met Gala look, with one commenting: ‘When I saw her dress I thought of your wedding dress instantly! Yours is so much better!’
‘I still can’t believe this Lil! Down to the gloves and the necklace!’ another fan wrote, while someone else added: ‘You definitely wore it better,’ another added.
Returning to Instagram later on Tuesday, Lillian posted a heartfelt messages to her supporters, insisting that she wasn’t upset about Gigi’s supposed ‘imitation’.
‘To everyone who shared, commented and sent supportive DMs, you guys are the best! I’m so grateful to have such a wonderful community of people who not only back me but creatives in general,’ she began.
‘The truth is I’m not mad about what happened today. I feel extremely proud and flattered. It’s interesting how… talent echos. I heard it all my life and today is a testament to the saying, ‘Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery,’ [loved-up emoji].
