Kicking off 2025 with a bang, Meghan Markle has today returned to Instagram, with an account simply called ‘ meghan’.
The Duchess of Sussex’s first video reel, which leaves out Prince Harry and all other titles, shows her running along a cloudy beach, carving “2025” in the wet sand with her finger, before laughing and running off camera.
The focus seems to be more on Meghan as an individual than the Sussexes as a couple, with 126K followers already and counting, including celebs like Julia Fox.
Prince Harry was not spotted in the short clip, but it’s believed he was the one who was in the camera. In what has been referred to as a “professional split,” the couple, who have previously worked together as a unit, have recently been focusing on their own separate projects.
A body language expert has now shared details about Meghan’s “very confident and playful” return to social media as she continues to carved out her own individuality away from the demands of palace life.

According to Judi James, “it appears as though a very confident and playful Meghan is re-opening that Pandora’s box” on social media by posting a bizarre little video with a more celebrity-than-royal vibe.
The person who is holding the camera here typically indicates a desire to be chased, as smiling zoomies down the beach would normally indicate. The undercurrent theory that the Montecito family’s romance is still alive seems to be that there is even the ‘egg’ of those enormous footprints in the wet sand that Harry’s feet match up to.
“Otherwise though, this is a view of Meghan that appears to be symbolic of freedom. Her perfectly preserved bare feet, her perfectly-manicured bare feet, and the breathless giggle as she darts across the screen all seem to indicate peaceful solitude and ability to breathe once more.

She continued, “Here she appears happy but a little coy about opening those doors once more for some direct, peek-a-boo communication with the public in a very celebrity-based way. The gap in her personal social media use appears to have been about privacy.”
Her problem may have been that she lacks direct communication, which can stoke rumors and speculation, while some direct chats allow her to regain control of the narrative. It might have been the toe-dip in the water that demonstrated that being royal and able to express your feelings in a way you might not be able to in public life.

Ahead of her 2018 wedding to Prince Harry, Meghan deactivated her Instagram, Twitter (X) and Facebook accounts, as well as her lifestyle blog The Tig, where she would write about topics such as food, travel and fashion. Back in August 2022, Meghan hinted at her return to social media, telling The Cut:” I’m getting back … on Instagram. “
Meghan’s first Instagram handle was used in the past, and the current handle is now known as the “Pink Jubilee.” It was created in June 2022, at the time of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee. The Sussexes also have an official joint Instagram account, ‘ sussexroyal’, which boasts more than nine million followers, but hasn’t been used since 2020, when the couple decided to take a step back as working members of the Royal Family.
