Maya Jama takes brutal swipe at ex Stormzy as she shares relationship secrets

Maya Jama has compared her dating style to a secret agent and criticized her ex-partners as she claimed she was aware of the reasons she needed to leave.

As she revealed the keys to a successful relationship, Maya Jama has taken a brutal swipe at her ex-boyfriends.

The 30-year-old Love Island host has been dating Portuguese footballer Ruben Dias, 27, since December last year, according to reports. Maya and Stormzy, whose real name is Michael Owuo Jr., 31, were engaged to a long-running on-off romance before their wedding.

From 2021 to 2022, she also had a famous romance with Australian basketball player Ben Simmons, 28. Maya has now admitted to dating in detail, explaining that she is always willing to leave if she feels like her other half is misbehaving.

Her sarcastic treatment of Stormzy and Ben is made as her relationship with Ruben is said to be waning, while more encouraging comments from her interview reveal her explaining that she is aware of the need to look for things to “like” in order to keep things moving. Maya claimed that if she is not receiving what she needs, she is only too happy to leave. She claimed that she has a lot of love to give to the right person.

Opening up to Julie Adenuga on Now You Know, the Love Island host discussed what she looks for in a partner. She revealed: “I’m such a lover but I am a big leaver as well. I know what makes me happy and I know what I like — and this is no disrespect to anyone I’ve been in a relationship with, but if it’s not that then I will leave it.

I always make the case that I am truly, really happy and have created a lovely, small life for myself and my friends. If you add value to or improve it, then I’m not really interested in you, so I only want you if you do.

Maya continued to make connections while being seen in public by comparing herself to a covert agent. She said, “Dating is a bit of a ball-ache if I am honest because I am like, “I can’t go anywhere with you because they are going to say I’m dating him even if I step out with my friend.” Being a secret agent to date is a little enraging.

Maya and Stormzy dated from 2014 until 2019 before falling out again in July 2024. When the final split occurred, a source told the Daily Mail that Maya and Stormzy were “very much on different pages in terms of their future.” Maya is enjoying her career, ambitious, and wants to prioritize achieving everything she can while Stormzy was eager to settle down. She enjoys going on trips and drinking, but at age 29, she is still unprepared for the chapter that will follow.

After rumours emerged that Maya and Ruben had started dating, a source told The Sun earlier this year: “Maya and Ruben swapped details at the EMAs and have chatted since, but things went up a gear in early December. When Ruben got injured and had to miss the congested new year fixtures, he jumped at the chance to see in 2025 with Maya in Spain. Spending New Year’s Eve together was a real step forward in their relationship. They get on really well and obviously make a gorgeous couple, but it’s early days.”
