Matthew Perry’s heartbreaking final moments have been revealed in a new documentary, Matthew Perry: A Hollywood Tragedy.

The Friends star’s tragic passing was the subject of the Peacock documentary’s release on February 25. Perry died aged 54 on October 28, 2023. The actor’s death was discovered in the hot tub at his Los Angeles home, where it was later determined that it was an accident due to the “acute effects of ketamine,” which the actor had apparently perished by drowning.

US Attorney Martin Estrada revealed that Perry had received 27 ketamine shots over the course of his final three days in the new documentary. He claimed that those responsible for providing or administering the shots “should have known much better.”

In the 19 days leading up to the star’s death, Perry’s assistant, Kenny Iwamasa, admitted guilt on one count of conspiracy to distribute ketamine causing death in August 2024. He also admitted to having spent around £42, 000 on the drug.

Iwamasa is currently helping with the cases involving Jasveen Sangha, a woman accused of selling the actor the lethal dose of ketamine, and Dr. Salvador Plasencia, who is accused of selling ketamine to Perry without permission in the month prior to his death.

Estrada claimed in the documentary that both Plasencia and Sangha harmed Perry to profit, and that the law is enforcing a course of action that is ineffective.

According to the New York Post, “Dr. Plasencia was very clear in his text messages that he viewed this as an opportunity to make a lot of money in a short amount of time,” he said.

“In the past, we used to refer to these things as overdose deaths and perpetrate more blaming of the victim. We don’t do that anymore. We blame the drug dealers, the drug sellers, for taking advantage of those addiction issues to cause death or serious injury, and that’s why we bring these cases”.

The lawyer added: “The big takeaway from this case is that when people involved in reckless activity, whether that be drug dealing or other activity, cause the death of others, there needs to be accountability”.

Dr. Chavez allegedly created the bridge between Plasencia, Sangha, who is alleged to be known in Hollywood circles as the “Ketamine Queen” and Perry, who has pleaded guilty to his accusations. Sangha and Plasencia are awaiting trial, both of whom have entered a not-guilty plea.

Perry began using ketamine as an off-label treatment for depression, but he soon realized he needed more than his doctor could give him. Perry’s death was caused by Plasencia, who in turn requested Chavez get the drug for him about a month prior.

“I wonder how much this moron will pay”, Plasencia texted Chavez, it was revealed in a lawsuit. At least four ketamine vials were exchanged between the two on the same day in Costa Mesa, which is halfway between Los Angeles and San Diego. Plasencia inquired from Chavez if he could continue providing the drugs so they could become Perry’s “go-to” items after selling them to him for $4,500.
