Marmoush Fires Frankfurt To Victory Amid Man City Link
In response to growing rumors that the Egyptian star is about to join Manchester City, Eintracht Frankfurt won the Bundesliga game at St Pauli on Saturday with a first-half goal from Omar Marmoush, which gave them a 1-0 lead.
Prior to the game, Frankfurt’s sporting director Markus Kroesche confirmed that “a club had spoken to us” regarding Marmoush, with Sky Germany reporting that the struggling English champion had already made personal arrangements with the team.
In the 32nd minute, Marmoush fired a shot into the top corner to give Frankfurt the lead. He calmly turned inside the box before heading home in the final minute.
The goal was Marmoush’s 14th in 16 Bundesliga games this season, taking him level with Harry Kane at the top of the scoring charts. The 25-year-old also has eight league assists.
Frankfurt’s captain Kevin Trapp said, “We did a lot to keep a clean sheet today.
“There’s definitely a few things we can improve on”, the goalkeeper added.
With a win over Bayern, Frankfurt will now be six points clear of Borussia Moenchengladbach when they travel to Borussia Moenchengladbach on Saturday.
Borussia Dortmund moved up to sixth place in another game with a 3-2 home win over Holstein Kiel, highlighted by Christian Guenter’s stunning free-kick.
On 23 minutes, Nicolai Remberg’s unwitting error caused Guenter to fire a superb dipping shot into the top corner from wide on the right-hand side after Nicolai Remberg had already diverted an Eren Dinkci cross into his own net.
Vincenzo Grifo added a third for Freiburg, but Kiel’s Phil Harres scored twice in the final five minutes to make the home side sweat.
Just days after a German Football Association (DFB) sports court punished them for unruly behavior by their fans, Union Berlin’s miserable week at Heidenheim suffered a 2-0 defeat.
After a home fan threw a lighter at the visiting goalkeeper, the DFB court decided that Union’s 1-1 home draw with Bochum in December should be regarded as a 2-0 win.
The court was attempting to set the club’s precedent by appealing the decision, according to union president Dirk Zingler, who referred to the pre-game ruling as an “unfair scandal.”
After Tom Rothe was red carded for a last-man foul, Bayern Munich loanee Frans Kraetzig gave the hosts the lead on the counter in his first Heidenheim game after 17 minutes.
Adrian Beck sealed the result with seven minutes remaining, giving his side a first win since September.
With a 2-0 victory over lowly Bochum, Mainz defeated RB Leipzig to move up to fourth, with Germany’s Jonathan Burkardt scoring in each half.
A 29th-minute Mohamed Amoura goal took Wolfsburg to a 1-0 win at Hoffenheim.
