Emma Owen’s wife, Mark Owen, has addressed those who claim the tragedy is a “celebrity crisis” in an emotional update on the fires in Los Angeles.
Emma, who previously posted a video of the fires as her and her family evacuated their home, took to Instagram on January 9 to remind followers that the majority of those affected by the fires are ordinary people who have lost everything in a matter of hours. She described the state of the city, how terrified everyone is, and how people are concerned that if they doze off, an evacuation alert will be missed.
She mentioned her friend Joyce, who has stayed at home, and said residents whose fire insurance has been canceled are stayed behind to fight fires themselves. “I’ve been watching it and honestly I don’t give a s*** about my house”, she said, holding back tears. “I just want Joyce to be safe – I’ve got my kids, my husband, my animals, just take my house, and save Joyce and other people who have stayed behind”.

I detest the media’s portrayal of this as a “celebrity crisis.” That is 5% of California – the major foundation of California is the workers, and they are people who have nothing left, no insurance, no where to escape to, rescue shelters are overrun. I don’t want you thinking ‘ it’s LA, they are all rich, they’ll be fine ‘ – no! There are many “unfortunately” people.
“I hate the way this is being represented”, she continued. “About rich celebrities – it’s not about that, it’s about real people”. She revealed that they picked up her daughter’s best friend, whose home had burned down, and that she was floored when the friend gave her daughter Fox a pair of trousers because she was worried she wouldn’t have any clothes to change into.

She continued, “I’ve been in awe of this city and I’m seeing so much humanity around me. The hotels are being so amazing, the prices are dropping, and the staff are being so caring, and the first responders and firefighters… it takes my breath away, how resilient this city is,” she continued.
Emma explained that Mark and his two daughters are staying in a hotel with some of their animals while their 18-year-old son Elwood is with his girlfriend and their dog, and that she and her family have had to split up. However, she is hoping they will reunite outside of Los Angeles over the weekend.
She added that the horse’s location is now in danger, and she was trying to relocate it once more because the family also has a horse that has been taken to safety.
Emma also praised the hospitals and Air BnB for allowing travelers to bring animals, as well as the restaurants that are providing free meals. “That is so touching and humbling”, she said. “It is shocking here, and I don’t want to use words like ‘ apocalypse ‘ and ‘ biblical ‘ but it is shattered, it is ravaged, it is beyond anything you can comprehend”.
