Marilyn Manson won’t face charges after years-long investigation into assault claims
Marilyn Manson will not face charges against Los Angeles County, according to a press release.
The musician, who is formally known as Brian Hugh Warner, was accused of domestic and sexual abuse when inquiries started looking into allegations of incidents in 2009 and 2011. However, now, prosecutors have determined that the allegations are either unsupported or beyond the scope of the statute of limitations.
According to The Guardian, Nathan Hochman, Los Angeles county district attorney, announced in a statement: “We have determined that allegations of domestic violence fall outside of the statute of limitations, and we cannot prove charges of sexual assault beyond a reasonable doubt”.
The women who came forward to report and share their experiences are commended, the attorney said, and we thank them for their cooperation and patience with the investigation.
Marilyn Manson has responded to the judgement via his attorney, Howard King. In a statement released to the Daily Mail, Kind stated, “We are very pleased that the District Attorney has determined what we knew and expressed right away: Brian Warner is innocent.
Prior to this most recent announcement, the investigation seemed to be developing further. On October 9 of last year, previous district attorney, George Gascón, said that new leads were being pursued alongside their “already extensive” file against Manson.
The charges being dropped stem from a 2021 investigation, looking into claims from years prior. Manson’s West Hollywood home was subject to a search warrant, and no charges have been filed against him.
The announcement comes just days after Channel 4 aired a documentary, Marilyn Manson: Unmasked, which spoke to fans, his musical collaborators, and his former partner Evan Rachel Wood about the allegations made about him.
Evan allegedly was raped by Manson on one of his music videos in the second of two episodes. When the actress was 18 and Manson was 37, the pair started dating. She recalled wearing Lolita-inspired heart-shaped glasses to see him one day, inspiring his song Heart-Shaped Glasses, which he asked his then-girlfriend to appear in the music video of.
The actress claimed that there was tension when she first arrived on the set and that a sex scene would occur, but it didn’t happen as she had anticipated.
