Many Burnt To Death In Kwara Auto Crash

On Friday, a number of people died in an auto accident in Ilorin, Kwara state, at Oko-Olowo, along the Ilorin-Jebba Expressway.
Not less than 60 people are said to be from the northern region of the country, according to unconfirmed sources, who estimate the number of burnt accident victims at 60.
An inferno ensued in the auto crash after a trailer carrying a petrol- and fertilizer collided while overtaking.
At the scene of the accident, other parts of the victims had been burned to ashes, while burned skulls and other parts of human bodies, such as legs, arms, etc., were visible burnt inside the affected vehicles.
According to sources, the auto crash that was reported to have occurred on Friday morning at around 8:30 am claimed to have left the victims without recognition, as well as burning the affected vehicles for more than two hours.
On either side of the road, no vehicles could move while the incident was ongoing to prevent being impacted.
However, after the losses, state fire service officials arrived at the scene to extinguish the raging fire at around 10:30 am.
How the car crashed
According to one of the witnesses, Sheu Arobadi, the fertiliser-laden trailer attempted to overtake the petrol-laden truck, and the two vehicles collided on the sides, causing a commotion.
According to Arobadi, the occupants of the truck carrying the fertilizer jumped from the top of the vehicle to avoid getting caught up in the  flame, as did the occupants on top of the trailer who immediately scrambled for safety.
“Many of the people jumped off the vehicles with broken legs and arms.” Before he could jump down, a father had to get one of his children out of the burning car. He claimed that those who had suffered injuries and fractures had been taken to nearby hospitals for medical care.
He claims that at least once per week along the expressway there are road accidents of all kinds, resulting in significant losses of lives and property.
