Man Utd ‘too anxious, too afraid’ – Amorim

Ruben Amorim, the manager of Manchester United, claims that his players are “too anxious, too afraid” and that his team’s poor form has had an impact on him.
United travel to Liverpool to take the lead on Sunday (16:30 GMT), following four straight defeats, three of which came in the Premier League.
Since Amorim took over in November, they have only won two top-flight games, seven points clear of the relegation zone.
Amorim, who has lost five of his eight Premier League games as leader, said, “You can see in my face, you can compare it to the way when I arrive and now.”
“Of course there is a lot of pressure. For me, it’s the pride and also the performance.
” It’s harder when we don’t perform well. “
United lost 3-0 at home to Bournemouth, 2-0 at Wolves before slumping to a 2-0 home defeat against Newcastle in the space of eight days over the festive period.
” They are anxious, sometimes afraid on the pitch, “Amorim said of his players”. We have to cope with that. “
As he praised defender Harry Maguire for surviving challenging circumstances, United’s Portuguese manager said on Friday that “we are starving for leaders on the pitch.”
I’m the most accountable person here to help the other guys, and we need leaders to step up, he said.
You can tell that the players are trying to be better because this is a challenging time, and they may be too anxious or afraid to play football.
Since January 2016, when Wayne Rooney scored the game’s only goal, United haven’t won at Anfield since moving 23 points clear of Liverpool after one more game.
Meanwhile, United have failed to score on the past five visits, with their last goal at the venue coming in December 2018.
Amorim predicted better times were ahead for United and their supporters despite his team’s precarious form.
