Dr. Alex George’s transformation into overweight after using alcohol to deal with his grief has been made public.
The 33-year-old medical professional rose to fame in 2018 while appearing on Love Island’s season four. Since then, he has used his medical background to fuel his TV career, appearing on programs like This Morning and Naked Education to offer medical advice and observations.
Following the suicide of his younger brother Llr in 2020, Alex has been open to discussions about mental health and grief. After admitting to turning to alcohol following the tragic news, the TV star completely changed his lifestyle. After making the decision to become sober, he now has revealed that he has lost a staggering 6st.
“I stopped drinking in December 2022, at the time I was 20 plus stone in weight – I am 14 something stone now”, he said on the ‘ I’m ADHD! No, You’re Not, ‘ podcast with Dr Mine Conkbayir and Paul Whitehouse. At the time, I was over 20 stone, and both my physical and mental health were at risk.

Alex added: “I was using alcohol to cope with grief. Either I was burying things or drinking heavily. Not a good combination for those two. I was never addicted. I’ve never had addiction, so don’t confuse that with a problem. There is a big difference between alcoholism and alcohol addiction, and we discuss both.
The reality star’s decision to stop drinking impacted his whole lifestyle. He shared that “I didn’t have a hard time putting the bottle down, but I had a hard time adjusting to life without it.” “How do you see friends? How do you do different things? You relearn. I’ve experienced completely new life. I see friends and we go and do runs, we go on the motorbike. More socialization is occurring now than it was in the past.
Alex shared a series of self-exposure photos from May last year that showed him looking trim while running in the rain and also featuring throwback topless photos from inside. He explained that in 2022, he realized his health was suffering and made the decision to change.
Alex wrote: “How did I turn my life around? I started showing up for myself. That’s it. I woke up on the 4th of December 2022, and promised myself that from that day forward, I would show up for myself. In everything I do. For Alex. Every day. Whether I could give 3%, 40% or 100%, I just showed up. When I walk into the gym or put on my trainers, I always think back to the day because that’s the hardest part of the job. Whatever I do after that point, is a bonus. Because I showed up that day, I can move forward.
A few years ago, my health and my life were in danger of collapsing. I’ve overcome my relationship with drinking, overcome my inner demons, shed the pounds, and regained my love of movement. I’ve made new acquaintances, discovered new interests, and most importantly, learned who I am and what my life’s goals are.
