The cast of Love Island: All Stars know that they have cameras on them 24/7, however some stars were shocked to learn that there are even cameras in the toilets – as revealed by series 10 contestant Ella Barnes.

The reality star, who took part in Love Island’s 2023 series, spoke to The Mirror’s Bombshell Briefing about the ongoing series of All Stars and opened up about what goes on behind-the-scenes in the ITV villa. Speaking about what surprised her about the making of the dating show, Ella revealed that there’s a camera in the villa toilet – and it caused some islanders to visit the medic after struggling to use it.

“There’s a camera in the toilet and you have to wear a microphone on the toilet,” she said. “So when I first came in, I was like, ‘Guys, I can’t go to the toilet, there’s literally a camera and you have to wear your microphone. But it is for safety reasons. “

Ella reiterated that the bathroom camera is purely for health and safety reasons in the villa and that the microphones are turned off. “Obviously, no one watches that camera. It’s purely if someone faints or they need to check the footage.

“When I’m going in, you obviously feel like you get a bit of you-time. Obviously there’s so many people watching [the cameras], like producers and stuff so they see you go to the toilet and they’ll turn your microphone off. So it’s purely for safety reasons, but I was shocked. “

She added that some of the islanders on her series suffered with constipation from sharing a toilet with a bunch of other people. “There were actually a lot of people when they first went in, they couldn’t actually go to the toilet because you’re obviously sharing with boys, so a lot of the girls were constipated,” she revealed.

“The nurse would actually have to give them tablets to go because your body’s stressed as it is in a new environment. There could be boys waiting outside, you just wanna have a bit of you-time. You can’t go, your body’s stressed but once you get used to it and you’ve been in that environment, you just have to get on with it. It was definitely a shock for me when I went in. “

On her series however, the cast were lucky enough to have two toilets in the villa. “The girls in my series actually had a separate toilet upstairs and there was a main toilet downstairs, so we ended up saying that was the girl’s toilet and the boys had one downstairs. “

The 25-year-old also revealed that she was on standby to head into the All Stars villa last year, but was pulled from the line-up at the last minute.

The Mirror’s Love Island Bombshell Briefing streams weekly on The Mirror website and platforms. Love Island returns tonight at 9pm on ITV2 and ITVX.
