There has been speculation that Lord Sugar would step down from The Apprentice after the 20th anniversary series, but he says he will continue to work and produce the show until the BBC tells him, “you’re fired.”
Sugar, 77, claims that the idea of retiring and finding a hobby dreads him.
He says: “Look, the 20th one, it means it’s not been commissioned yet, but I think there’s a good chance that it’s going to happen, and it’s going to be special, extra special obviously for me. However, I enjoy starting new businesses and finding young people to work for. I’m starting from scratch again with them, and that’s what I enjoy doing. Who knows, I’ll keep going until the funeral director decides to stop it, then? You never know”.
Asked about the prospect of slowing down, he shakes his head and adds: “I’m not one of those people. I won’t go to a location where I can smell the roses, begin gardening, and all that stuff.
Lord Sugar also discussed the new 19th season of The Apprentice with former Spurs owner Ange Postecoglou in support of his decision to fire him. He said he would allow him to wait to see if results improve when injured players return. He part owned the club from 1991 to 2001.
When asked if Tottenham are currently without a leader at the moment, Sugar replies, “A good question. Who is the leader? I mean if you’re talking about the chairman Daniel Levy, he’s a very clever man, I have to tell you. One of the lowest wages among other clubs is Tottenham, according to recent statistics that I looked at. Look, when I ran that club, I remember Ossie Ardiles, in fact, the late Terry Venables saying to me, ‘ There’s a lot of luck associated in football ‘ and he is right. You have to understand that the players are people, the pressure that the outside media places on them, and all of this makes them anxious if things are going wrong.
Things would be better if there was a magic wand that could be used to direct them to ignore what they saw in the past, ignore previous performances, and simply get out there and do your job, in my opinion. In the last ten years, there have been so many managers at Tennham. I like Ange. I think he’s good. He should be given more opportunities to recover his injured players because he is a straight forward, down to earth Aussie, in my opinion. And it’s halfway through the season, let’s see what happens. However, constantly changing and cutting management is bad.
In the first episode of the series, Lord Sugar’s advisers, Baroness Karren Brady and Tim Campbell, travel to Innsbruck, Austria to watch the candidates while performing a special first task, selling tickets to expensive vacations.
If the 18 competitors advance to the final stages, they will be able to propose to Lord Sugar from a variety of backgrounds and have a wide range of business options.
Lord Sugar admits that despite including AI tasks for this year’s series to stay up-to-date, he still enjoys businesses where you are making and manufacturing, which might be a top priority when looking for a place to invest his £250, 000.

He explained:” I like something where you make something, you either make or produce something, sell something. I dislike all of this, and I’m launching a new website that teaches people how to do this or that.
“So I’m more into manufacturing and selling things. So that’s the kind of businesses that I’m looking for”.
Lord Sugar claimed that the appointment of Trump created a “nervous atmosphere” in Florida when he spoke from the US.
He is currently attempting to implement some of his promises and plans. Because there are many non-US citizens living here who have jobs and help to boost the economy, there is a certain niggle in people’s minds about being deported. And I don’t know where you draw the line as to leave them here, but get rid of the criminals, for instance”.
Asked what he thinks of Trump, he grins and says: “Well, he will tell you I am in business with him.
” Yes. Because of the fact that he sold The Apprentice format to MGM, which he claimed was Mark Burnett’s original ownership, he appears to have a small stake in the show. So he always reminds people that, ‘ Lord Sugar works for me ‘ he says.
Will we engage in business together? Because he’s currently busy being president and starting to implement some of his promises and plans, I don’t believe that opportunity will ever arise.
Additionally, Lord Sugar appears to have no intention of going into too much detail about the sex ban on The Apprentice.
According to the contract for the show, contestants are required to “not engage in any intimate physical contact or sexual activity with any other candidate, crew member, or member of the production team during the competition.”
However, there are rumors that two candidates may have gotten into trouble while filming in Turkey this year, despite the rumor that he does not appear to be too upset.
“Look, I can’t have any input into that”, he says
“I mean it’s human nature, it’s the attraction of the opposite sex. What can I do? We do keep our eyes on them, but it’s natural. They’re told not to do it, but what can I do”?
Asked if he speaks to the candidates about it, he says: “No, the producers do. I mean, it is effectively me saying it because they’re marking out my rules”.
The Apprentice starts tonight/tomorrow (THURS) on BBC1 and BBC iPlayer from 9pm.
