After Peter Kay compared a rowdy audience member to the Emmerdale star before she was led out of his Manchester show, Lisa Riley has defended him.
The comedian, 51, had three hecklers removed from his ‘ Better Late Than Never… Again! ‘ Manchester AO Arena concert.
Peter claimed that the hecklers were ruining the show for the rest of the audience, and that there comes a point where he must deal with hecklers. After calling and kicking a woman out of the arena, he also made a comeback.
Now, Lisa has shared her true feelings on Peter’s joke. Taking to her Instagram stories, Lisa, 48, wrote: “Please draw a line under this now, I am not offended, never was offended. I love Peter Kay to pieces. Laughter is my favourite medicine”.
The Mandy Dingle actress also shared a picture of the quote “keep calm and laugh” and wrote in the caption: “It’s a laugh, it’s funny”.
When Peter claimed that the comparison between the audience member and Lisa was a negative one during an appearance on Good Morning Britain, he maintained that he didn’t mean it.
“‘ I didn’t realise it was an insult. She did look remarkably like Lisa Riley, I didn’t realise that was an insult”, he insisted while on the ITV show. By yelling “we love you,” the woman in question had admired her.
However, she asked to leave, with Peter making a remark comparing her to actress Lisa from the long-running soap. After she yelled out, the comedian shouted back at her from stage: “Go on, off you go Lisa Riley”.
Another attendee had repeatedly shouted “garlic bread”, referencing Peter’s famous catchphrase, prompting the comedian to call security for their removal.
Phillip Peters, the man who yelled out ‘ garlic bread’, spoke out after he and his son were removed from the venue. He said: “I just can’t understand it, all I said was ‘ garlic bread’… They dragged us out like ragged dolls when my son and I were there.
The comedian allegedly greeted the warehouse driver with warm reception for his comment, which included a visit from the comedian himself, but Phillip soon became agitated when he chanted the catchphrase. Phillip was given tickets to the performance as a Christmas present.
He continued, “In the first half of the show, I yelled “garlic bread,” and the cameras followed me. And I gave it a thumbs up that everything was alright. I got no warning or anything, people around us were laughing and joking. The security guards then came over to me and said “you are going to have to leave – Peter Kay doesn’t like people shouting out,” and I repeated it in the second half of the show.
Peter’s decision to remove the hecklers irked a few fans, who called his actions “nasty and bitter”. Some attendees objected to some jokes, including ones that dealt with the subject of erections and how a blind person was depicted. After the heckler was addressed at the end of his Manchester, February 8 show, one attendee said to MailOnline: “I’ve lost a lot of respect for Peter Kay.”
“Having him forced to leave by his entourage,” he joked in earnest throughout the three or four minutes. No manners. Huge waste of money. “
One audience member told the publication:” The whole thing just feels very nasty and bitter. Although his performance was subpar, how he handled one heckler and a person yelling “we love you” was ridiculous. After that, my friend and I left the show an hour early. “Others left the show early as well.
The actress posted a cryptic post on her Instagram page after he made a comparison to the woman. Lisa, who has lost an incredible 12 stone in recent years and has openly discussed her weight loss journey, quoted a positive statement about “seeing the good in life.”
It read:” We can complain because rose bushes have thorns, or rejoice because thorns have roses. “Captioning the quote, Lisa wrote:” See the good in life…. before you ALWAYS jump to the negative…. It’s so much simpler to live, in my opinion.
